‘n Kamer of ‘n land nie
My huis het nie ‘n tuin nie
‘n Dak of selfs ‘n deur nie
My huis is waar my kinders is
Ek is tuis as ek kan weet
Waar elkeen hom of haar bevind
Ek loop in my pa se skoene
Ek loop in my pa se jas
En ek weet na soveel jare
‘n Pa het ‘n hart van glas
‘n Pa het lief maar onvolmaak
Dis dikwels krom en skeef
En al gebeur dit veels te laat
Kom sy liefde
Tog op dreef
My huis het geen adres nie
Geen straat of pos restant nie
Geen lig in donker vensters nie
Geen nommer op die hek nie
Want my huis is waar my kinders is
Ek is tuis as ek kan weet
Waar elkeen hom of haar bevind
Dis al wat ek moet weet
Want ek loop in my pa se skoene
Ek loop in my pa se jas
En ek weet na soveel jare
‘n Pa het ‘n hart van glas
‘n Pa het lief maar onvolmaak
Dis dikwels krom en skeef
En al gebeur dit veels te laat
Kom sy liefde
Tog op dreef
Want ek loop in my pa se skoene
Ek loop in my pa se jas
En ek weet na soveel jare
‘n Pa het ‘n hart van glas
‘n Pa het lief maar onvolmaak
Dis dikwels krom en skeef
En al gebeur dit veels te laat
Kom sy liefde
Tog op dreef
In Coenie De Villiers's song Hart Van Glas, the lyrics describe how a house is not just a physical place, but rather a place where loved ones are present. The idea of a physical address, with a street and postal code, is not necessary because home is defined by the people in it, rather than its location. The singer reflects on how he walks in his father's shoes and wears his jacket, representing the continuity of love and values passed down from generation to generation. The song speaks to the universal experience of flawed and imperfect parents who try their best to express love in their own way, even if it may not always be seen or acknowledged.
