Yesterday I had to bury my partner after 12 years of relationship. He died in a plane crash and was the love of my life, my soulmate and best friend. I know most people think about loved ones who passed away when they hear this song, but for me, it holds a different meaning. For me, it’s me looking back and hanging onto a relationship that’s been long gone. I made mistakes. I took things for granted. I miss that feeling it used to give me. When through times few years back. From 2016 to 2018, it was the hardest times I have experienced.
Jumping jobs, unemployed for almost a year, heartbreaks, then deaths of family member and closed friends.
This song helped me to go through those years. although it has been 6 years since they released the album, been listening to this masterpiece everyday.

This is, in my opinion, the best thing they ever produced. People idolize the past because it is a part of what formed them. It feels classic. Someday this may feel classic too. But many Coldplay songs have meaningless or uninteresting lyrics. These lyrics are the opposite. They are arresting and the backing music is incredible as well. I have never lost someone close to me (at least not in a sudden way I wasn't prepared for) but I find this song almost overwhelming.

I developed self esteem issues and body dysmorphia and ended uo with an ed… I stayed awake till three am to stop my friends from committing. I missed everybody. I started questioning everything… my sexuality, my friends, my existence. I fell into a deep depression and hid away. I realized I had a big crush on one of my friends, my female friend. It’s now the end of the year and I’m going to high school now. I’m afraid everybody I love will leave me. I stayed awake till 4 am listening to this song, crying. I still remember when my friend was going through tough times and almost considered suicide, I called him on the phone and said "Bro.. Wanna go get some coffee and listen to some coldplay?" He agreed to meet and we got some coffee and listened to this track and then some others. We didn't talk until after a couple of songs later. He calmed down and told me "Man.. My dad passed away a few weeks ago and he’s the one who introduced me to music and made me fall in love with it, specifically Coldplay. This is a song that I listened to and loved for a long time but I didn’t realize the true meaning until after my dad passed away. This song describes how I feel in my grief and I feel less alone knowing that this is a feeling someone else has felt too. The fact that the world is moving on without him in it hurts but what he gave me as a father will always be within me.
