The Zombies disbanded. In the early 70's, Blunstone re-emerged as a solo act, and scored several major hits. The music featured rhythm guitar now and ranged from string arranged melodies, to rock, to American folk. The Zombies were never far away; for instance, "Andorra", written by co-Zombies Rod Argent and White, is a remake of "Time of the Season".
"One Year" was his first solo album.
In the late 70's Colin lent his voice to The Alan Parsons Project, a logical progression from his solo work, as can be heard in a song such as "Old and Wise".
Colin is currently touring and recording again with Rod Argent, another founder member of the Zombies, performing both new material and hits from their joint and solo careers.
Ain't it Funny

How it may be a bad weather day
You can feel happy
In a most extraordinary way
Ain't it funny
Though it may shine all day long
You can feel down, wear a frown
And your face is as long,
You have to give before you take
The choice is yours
So why not make it
It's easier than A.B.C.
If you really try
It's so easy, so easy
Ain't it funny
How you listen
To things that you say
Makes you wonder what on earth
Made your mind work that way
Ain't it funny
How often things seem to go wrong
You can feel down, wear a frown
And your face is as long
As long as a mile
Ain't it funny
Now how long had I known you
Before I first saw, wanted more
For the first time
I knew what I had to do
The song "Ain't it Funny" by Colin Blunstone is a contemplative piece about the ups and downs of life, and how we have the ability to choose our perspective on things. Blunstone observes that it can be a "bad weather day" yet we can still feel happy, or conversely, the sun can be shining but we can feel down. This observation suggests that our well-being is not necessarily determined by external factors, but rather by our own internal state of mind. The imagery of a face as "long as a mile" when we feel down is effective in conveying the depth of those emotions.
Blunstone's reflective tone continues as he offers the wisdom that we must give before we can take. This suggests that we must offer our own positivity and kindness to others before we can expect to receive it ourselves. He encourages us to make this choice, and implies that it is an easy one to make if we are willing to try. The repeated refrain of "it's so easy, so easy" reinforces this idea.
In the final verse, Blunstone turns to a more personal topic - his newfound attraction to someone. He reflects on how he had known them for a while, but it wasn't until a certain moment that he realized he wanted more. This shift in tone adds another layer to the song, as it suggests that our emotions can be complex and unpredictable, even when we think we have a handle on them.
Overall, the message of the song is that life can be full of surprises and challenges, but we have the power to choose our response to them. By giving kindness and positivity to others, we can create a happier and more fulfilling life for ourselves.
