The line between inspiration and imitation blurred when Hazard's song "Ponytail Girl" spread like wildfire on Napster, mislabeled as a Depeche Mode b-side. Despite both parties' efforts to set the record straight (depechemode.com went so far as to address the mix-up in their FAQ), bootleg versions of Depeche Mode's Exciter album were sold around the world with "Ponytail Girl" included as a so-called bonus track. Hazard used the incident as the basis for a tribute album to the band, Color Theory presents Depeche Mode.
Since then, Hazard has emerged from the shadow of his childhood heroes to become an artist in his own right. The Orange County Register acclaimed, "Hazard writes songs that are intensely personal and uses technology to enhance material that is as emotive as the best folk." Highlights include winning the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, two songs in the hit video game Rock Band, and several song placements on MTV's The Real World.

Here in My Heart
Color Theory Lyrics

Deaf to the knocking of drifters and runaways
The former tenants are all but forgotten now
Warm yourself by the fire that burns in your name
Kick off your shoes
Let down your hair
I hope that you'll stay
The door opens only for you
With no walls to hide what I'm feeling inside
Only windows to my soul
But the miraculous part
Impossible as it may seem
You're free to leave but you always will be
Here in my heart
Painted in the red of your lips
Decorated in the fashion of your sweet smile
Furnished in perfect poetry that you inspire
How can you help but be yourself?
The more you live here in my heart
The more that you'll find
I live in yours too
It's a place to call your own
After all this time
It's a place to call your own
After all this time
We have finally found a home
After all this time
All this time
I feel you here in my heart
The door opens only for you
With no walls to hide what I'm feeling inside
Only windows to my soul
But the miraculous part
Impossible as it may seem
You're free to leave but you're always with me
Cause I feel you here in my heart
You're free to leave but you're always with me
Here in my heart.
The song "Here in My Heart" by Color Theory is a beautiful tribute to love and the way it can create a home in one's heart. The lyrics describe the singer's deep love for someone, who has come to be the sole occupant of their heart. They invite this person in to stay, to make themselves comfortable and warm by the fire of the love that burns for them. The singer speaks of the space in their heart being decorated and furnished with the very essence of the person they love, from the color of their lips to the way they smile, to the inspiration that they bring to create perfect poetry.
The lyrics are full of a sense of home and belonging, where the person the singer loves is free to come and go as they please, but will always be a part of the singer's heart. It's a universal feeling of love and finding a place to belong, where the walls are down, and a wonderful sense of acceptance thrives. The singer acknowledges that they live in the heart of the person they love, just as the one they love lives in theirs. It's a beautiful exchange and a message of enduring love that comes full circle, just as two people hold space in each other's hearts forever.
