The line between inspiration and imitation blurred when Hazard's song "Ponytail Girl" spread like wildfire on Napster, mislabeled as a Depeche Mode b-side. Despite both parties' efforts to set the record straight (depechemode.com went so far as to address the mix-up in their FAQ), bootleg versions of Depeche Mode's Exciter album were sold around the world with "Ponytail Girl" included as a so-called bonus track. Hazard used the incident as the basis for a tribute album to the band, Color Theory presents Depeche Mode.
Since then, Hazard has emerged from the shadow of his childhood heroes to become an artist in his own right. The Orange County Register acclaimed, "Hazard writes songs that are intensely personal and uses technology to enhance material that is as emotive as the best folk." Highlights include winning the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, two songs in the hit video game Rock Band, and several song placements on MTV's The Real World.

So Many Ways
Color Theory Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Everybody has times when they feel like they don’t fit in
Everybody needs someone to listen
And say they understand
Everybody thinks that the world should
Bend to their demands
But you know better
Some of the darkness stays behind, I promise
Give it another day
I know you in so many ways
I’m a believer
I’m a believer
There are so many ways to fight loneliness
So many brighter days in sight, I promise
Give it another day
Believe that these words can be true
I’m a believer
I’m a believer too
Everybody has different strengths and different weaknesses
Everybody has their own goals and their own purposes
Everybody tries to measure up to everybody else
Everybody sets an unfair standard
In how they judge themselves
But you know better
Whatever you’re going through
However hard it seems
Just remember that it will surely pass
Because change is the only constantly occurring theme
When your demons are in full splender
And you’re driven to full surrender
Just remember that it can never last.
Color Theory's song "So Many Ways" is a powerful song that talks about the human experience of feeling alone or lost. The lyrics suggest that everyone goes through these phases, and everyone has their strengths, weaknesses, goals, and purposes, and it's easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to others. At times, people may feel like they do not belong or that things will never get better, but the song reassures the listener that there are so many ways to find happiness and fight loneliness.
The lyrics of "So Many Ways" remind us that it's alright to have bad days, but they do not define us, and things will get better. It stresses the importance of having someone who can listen and empathize with us, and that it's okay to seek help because everyone needs support at some point. The song emphasizes the idea that change is constant, and even the darkest moments will eventually pass.
