Real works on this project in balance (and sometimes not) with his full time career as a Sound Designer at BioWare Edmonton, making some of the most highly regarded video games in the industry.
There are a wide range of influences in the Comaduster palette, some include: IDM, Drum and Bass, Industrial, Ambient and Post-Rock.
The project started in 1998 and originally went under the title 'FXseries'. During this time a local album entitled "Ghostmachine" was released.
In 2004 there was a brief name change to 'Daedal' and a 5 track demo was released online. The demo had a generally positive response. During this time remixes were done for Icon of Coil and Dismantled, as well as mixing work on the Dismantled album "Standard Issue", released on Metropolis and Dependent records.
In 2008 the name was changed to 'Comaduster' and the project took on a more focused objective.
In late 2009 the album "Slip through" was released online for free (or donation). This album was a culmination of work from 2002-2006, with the title track being composed in 2008. It was pared down from 19 tracks to 7 over the course of finalizing it in 2009. It was originally intended to be a release of unfinished material that would not have seen the light of day otherwise. Over the course of mixing and reworking the material a more focused sound started to emerge from a few of the tracks in the large list.
The album was released in late September 2009 and has been highly regarded.
In January of 2010 the unreleased track "Hide to Seek" was released in the Xbox 360 game "Mass Effect 2" . You can hear this track in the Eternity club in the game.
On September 24th 2010 the track "Foam Abattoir" will be released on Dependent Record's "Septic IX" compilation.
In late 2010 a remix EP follow for Slip Through will be released. This has yet to be given a title.
And on September 25th 2010 Comaduster will be performing his first full on Audio Visual piece (untitled).
This piece will be released in 2011 in some form or another.
The Voidless
Comaduster Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To relive the lives
We've left behind
For nothing
And when we're caught
Point your fear to me
We'll blood let our phantoms
To bleach the seas
As singular
We can't divide
Impotent lesson learned
In ending times
We dream in
Voidless
Pattern weaving
End to end
We've tried
End to End
End to End
End to End
Ends
In
Voidless
In
Solace
The lyrics of Comaduster's song "The Voidless" explore themes of longing, sacrifice, and finding solace in a world that feels empty and devoid of meaning.
The opening lines, "We'll find another way / To relive the lives / We've left behind / For nothing," suggest a desire to escape the current circumstances and return to a time when life had more value or purpose. The singer acknowledges that this quest may be futile, as they mention doing it "for nothing."
The line "And when we're caught / Point your fear to me" could indicate a willingness to take responsibility for any consequences or punishment that may arise from their actions. It demonstrates a sense of solidarity and protection for a loved one in the face of adversity.
"We'll blood let our phantoms / To bleach the seas" is a metaphorical phrase that implies a willingness to confront and purge the burdens and regrets that haunt them. It suggests a desire for redemption and purification, even if it means sacrificing their own well-being.
The chorus, "We dream in voidless / Pattern weaving end to end / We've tried," showcases a sense of frustration at the cyclical nature of their existence. They feel trapped in a pattern of searching for meaning, yet constantly falling short. The repetition of "end to end" emphasizes the feeling of continuous effort without tangible results.
The final lines, "Ends / In / Voidless / In / Solace," evoke a feeling of resignation and acceptance. It suggests that despite the ongoing struggle, there is a small comfort or peace to be found within the emptiness they have come to accept as their reality. It could be interpreted as finding solace in embracing the void and finding their own meaning within it.
Overall, the lyrics of "The Voidless" convey a sense of longing for a more purposeful existence, while simultaneously acknowledging the futility of their efforts. It delves into themes of sacrifice, resilience, and finding solace within a seemingly empty world.

The screaming at the end gives me goosebumps.

This song is the one that came the most organically on the record. As soon as I had the core piano progression figured out, I knew exactly what the rest of the song was going to be and where it would fit on the album. I'm probably most proud of this one because of that, but 'Solace' the track is actually a large piece of my life and it sounds exactly how I wanted after 14 years of reworking it over and over.

Comaduster will be really big in the future. Looking forward to the new album already.

I love this album so much. The artistic value is through the roof. Everything that I think is missing from most dubie music is present in all of your work. Plus, the concept story is so thick. At moments it feels like a love story; then at other moments it seems like the aforementioned lovers are different parts of the same being. So riveting, but it's hard to tell based off the lyrics. I haven't looked at the index yet, but I'm amazed at the universe you've created. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS WITH THE WORLD!
@Comaduster
Thank you for taking the time to explore what you have! It means a lot when I hear that people are pulling back the layers and getting their own meaning. And yeah -- The Index makes it headspin-y haha. And I'm glad you picked up on the nature of the duality of the 'protagonist' -- It took a long time to write something so alien and weird, and have pinpoints where it can relate to the human experience.

It is like entering the gates of futuristic hell itself, when screams starts... Souls of imprisoned mortals tortured by eternity in endless void in another dimension. The dimension defined only by pain. Would love to see it in some sci-fi game...or book.
@Comaduster
Thematically and conceptually, that's not far off of what's happening here. Basically a universe is getting reformatted, while the remaining lifeforms in it lament before they're information gets fragmented to background noise of a new universe. I guess that could be considered a form of hell.
