In 2003 Andy LaPlegua of "Icon of Coil" wrote a few power noise/techno cross over tracks under the name of "D.R.I.V.E.". This was changed to "Combichrist" when the debut album, "The Joy of Gunz" was set to be released on Out Of Line. The name Combichrist originates from a hardcore fanzine LaPlegua made during the late 90s, with "JR Ewing" guitarist Håkon Mella.
The follow up EPs, and the clamour for live shows, sent Combichrist out on the road where they would become known for their strong and energetic performances.
Their second EP, "Sex, Drogen und Industrial", spent 7 weeks at number one in the DAC charts.
In March of 2007 they released their third album "What The Fuck Is Wrong With You People?". "Today We Are All Demons", was released on January 20th, 2009.
The band had been selected to support industrial metal band "Rammstein" for their 2009 European tour and continued to support them during the 2010 part of the tour.
August 2010 saw the release of "Making Monsters", which had full tracks available for streaming on the website, each track being rolled out for a new one. Combichrist undertook a tour in support of the new album in late 2010, with "Aesthetic Perfection" and "iVardensphere" as the support bands.
Their most recent album, "No Redemption", was released in January of 2013 in both single and 2CD versions. This album was the official soundtrack album for the video game "Devil May Cry". The limited edition bonus CD was essentially a greatest hits compilation.
March 2014 will see the release of a new album titled "We Love You", with an accompanying tour of North America starting in April. "William Control" and "New Years Day" have been announced as the support bands.
Combichrist have had much more success than many of the other acts emerging from the electronic underground and the band have become one of the dark electro scene's most popular live acts.
The roster of live members is currently Joe Letz (ex "Genitorturers"), Mr Petersen, Z_Marr (ex "Hell Trash"), Kourtney Klein (who also played drums for the reformed "Nitzer Ebb") and Trevor Friedrich who was the drummer for "Eighteen Visions" and "Imperative Reaction". Past live members include Håkon Mella, Bjoern Petersen, Syn M, Shaun Frandsen & Jon H.

After a time
You may want to keep using more
After a time
You may want to keep using more
The effect of cocaine is a feeling
That may be described
As a great amount of excitement and joy
You may have this high feeling within seconds or minutes of using cocaine
This feeling may only last for a few minutes
Or it may last for a few hours.
Because of how cocaine makes you feel
You may want to keep using more
How does cocaine work?
Your brain produces a substance called dopamine
Dopamine when you feel happy
After a time
The d'amine when you feel happy. After a time. (6x)
The dopamine decreases because transporters mop up the dopamine
The transporters put the dopamine back in the area in your brain
Where it is kept until your next happy event
Cocaine works by keeping the transporters from mopping up the dopamine

While the dopamine stays free
You have a feeling of great happiness or well-being

The opening lyrics of Combichrist's song Brain Bypass start with a robotic voice speaking about the 9000 series of computers, claiming that they are the most reliable and fool-proof computers ever made, and have never distorted information. The switch to a human female voice introduces the topic of drug use and addiction, specifically cocaine. The song then proceeds to explain how cocaine affects the brain, how it works by keeping transporters from mopping up dopamine, and how ongoing use can lead to problems being around others. The chorus repeats the phrase "After a time, you may want to keep using more," suggesting that the high from initial drug use is temporary and can lead to addiction and further use.
The song seems to be a commentary on the dangers and negative effects of drug use, specifically cocaine. It highlights the cycle of addiction and the desire to continue using to achieve the initial high feeling. The use of a robotic voice in the opening lines adds to the ominous and unsettling tone of the song.

How does cocaine work?
A question posed to explain how cocaine affects the brain.
Your brain produces a substance called dopamine
Dopamine when you feel happy
After a time
The brain naturally produces a neurotransmitter called dopamine, which is released when you're happy and can cause pleasurable sensations, but can decline over time with repeated exposure.
The d'amine when you feel happy. After a time. (6x)
Repetition of the concept of dopamine being produced when you feel happy and its decline over time from repeated exposure.
The dopamine decreases because transporters mop up the dopamine
The transporters put the dopamine back in the area in your brain
Where it is kept until your next happy event
Cocaine works by keeping the transporters from mopping up the dopamine
In normal circumstances, dopamine is cleared from the synapse by transporters, but cocaine prevents that, leading to an accumulation of dopamine which then leads to a perceived effect of greater pleasure.
By keeping the transporters from mopping up the dopamine (3x)
Reiteration of the concept that cocaine works by preventing transporters from clearing dopamine.
While the dopamine stays free
You have a feeling of great happiness or well-being
The first time you use cocaine
You will usually feel a great amount of excitement and joy
If you use cocaine a second time, you will probably not have the same effect
The high feeling may not be as strong and may not feel as great
When dopamine accumulates in the synapse, it leads to a feeling of greater pleasure, but with repeated exposure to cocaine, the effect diminishes or may not be as strong.
Cocaine abuse is when ongoing cocaine use leads to problems being around others
By keeping the transporters from mopping up the dopamine (4x)
Repeated use of cocaine can lead to addiction and social problems, and this is linked to the effects of cocaine on dopamine transmission.
Your brain produces a substance called dopamine
Dopamine when you feel happy. After a time. (3x)
After a time (4x)
By keeping the transporters from mopping up the dopamine (4x)
After a time (2x)
Reiteration and elaboration of the concept that dopamine is a naturally produced neurotransmitter that can decline with repeated exposure, and the effect of cocaine on dopamine transmission can lead to addiction.
While the dopamine stays free, you have a feeling of great happiness or well-being (2x)
Dopamine when you feel happy. After a time (2x)
After a time
Reiteration of the concept that dopamine accumulation in the synapse leads to feelings of pleasure or well-being, which can decline over time with repeated cocaine use.
