Originally from Detroit, Michigan, the six original members were Keith Staten, Fred Hammond, Mitchell Jones, Karl Reid, Michael Brooks, and Michael Williams. In 1991 Staten and Brooks left the group and were replaced by Marvin Sapp, Maxx Frank, and Eddie Howard, Jr.. By 1994 Howard had left the group and Williams left a year later. Hammond also left to pursue a career with the group Radical For Christ. He was replaced by Montrell Darrett. By 2000, Marcus Cole and Chris Poole had taken the place of Sapp and Darrett on the group's last studio album. In 2002 Commissioned released a reunion album which brought back most of the group's former members and featured most of its greatest hits. The group performed live on stage during the 2002 Stellar Awards in Atlanta, Georgia.
(2) An urban Black gospel band with crossover appeal, Commissioned are an extremely evangelistic group in concert who put on such a dramatic show that the altars are routinely packed with repenters following their performances. Members Fred Hammond, Keith Staten, Michael Brooks and Marvin Sapp have all done many successful solo projects as well. They spent most of the '90s pursuing those careers, but found themselves back together in 2001 for a reunion tour and the first of another successful series of albums. ~ Bil Carpenter, Rovi
Charge It To My Head
Commissioned Lyrics

I saw my favorite photograph of you and me
You were my pride and joy
The one my heart beats for
And you will always be
The apple of my eye
If ever I forget to say I love you
If ever I forget to say I care
If ever I forget to say i miss you
When we're apart
Charge it to my head and not my heart
I found the picture that you drew of our family
I couldn't help but notice
You were waiving goodbye to me
I realized that we are often apart
But I want you to know
That you are close to my heart
You will always be a very special part of me
Everything I do, I do for you
In the song "Charge It To My Head" by Commissioned, the singer is reflecting on a past relationship and looking back on memories shared with their partner. They come across a photograph of the two of them together, a reminder of the love that once existed between them. The singer affectionately describes their partner as their "pride and joy" and the "apple of [their] eye," indicating a deep and meaningful connection between them. Despite any disagreements or hardships they may have faced, the singer acknowledges that their love for their partner has never wavered.
The second verse of the song reveals that the singer has a family with their partner, yet they are often separated. This may be due to work, travel or other life circumstances, but the singer wants their partner to know that distance does not diminish the love they share. The singer speaks directly to their partner, assuring them that they are always on their mind and that everything they do, they do for their partner and family.
The chorus of the song provides a mantra for the singer's love for their partner. They acknowledge that there may be times when they forget to express their love, care or affection, but they implore their partner to "charge it to [their] head and not [their] heart." In other words, any lapses in communication or forgetfulness should not be interpreted as a lack of love or devotion.
Overall, "Charge It To My Head" is a moving tribute to a past relationship and one person's enduring love for their partner and family, despite any obstacles that may arise.

You can hear and feel the gratitude in their voices. Lord I love you with no strings attached, with no alternative motives except to hear you say well done my good and faithful servant. We are not worthy of anything yet you give it to us all we need in abundance
