Originally from Detroit, Michigan, the six original members were Keith Staten, Fred Hammond, Mitchell Jones, Karl Reid, Michael Brooks, and Michael Williams. In 1991 Staten and Brooks left the group and were replaced by Marvin Sapp, Maxx Frank, and Eddie Howard, Jr.. By 1994 Howard had left the group and Williams left a year later. Hammond also left to pursue a career with the group Radical For Christ. He was replaced by Montrell Darrett. By 2000, Marcus Cole and Chris Poole had taken the place of Sapp and Darrett on the group's last studio album. In 2002 Commissioned released a reunion album which brought back most of the group's former members and featured most of its greatest hits. The group performed live on stage during the 2002 Stellar Awards in Atlanta, Georgia.
(2) An urban Black gospel band with crossover appeal, Commissioned are an extremely evangelistic group in concert who put on such a dramatic show that the altars are routinely packed with repenters following their performances. Members Fred Hammond, Keith Staten, Michael Brooks and Marvin Sapp have all done many successful solo projects as well. They spent most of the '90s pursuing those careers, but found themselves back together in 2001 for a reunion tour and the first of another successful series of albums. ~ Bil Carpenter, Rovi
No Weapon
Commissioned Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Your in and outs, your round and rounds
I know how you feel
It ain't time to be giving up,
Though you feel you've had enough
You've got a place in God's will
You say when does it end and now that all depends
Are you ready to fight?
You don't have to sing another sad song,
It's all been said and done
CHORUS
No weapon that's formed against you
No weapon that's formed
Against you shall prosper
(REPEAT)
Consider this my friend,
You're not fighting to win
For the battle is won
But you wrestle to sustain,
Your hope and eternal gain
Given by the Son
Your tests and trials come to make you strong
For I know you can make it through, yeah
Gold without fire can never be pure gold,
Your trials come to perfect you
CHORUS * (REPEAT)
BRIDGE
No weapon that is formed shall prosper this I know
There is no room for doubt, for I know He'll work it out
They can say what they want, do what they want to do
The weapon may form, but it never will prosper
CHORUS
Please don't be deceived by the factual reality
Your trouble won't last always
For they're all subject to change
For He brought principalities and defeated the enemy
I encourage you my friend
Hold the truth until the end
CHORUS
The lyrics to Commissioned’s song No Weapon offer a message of hope and perseverance for those facing difficult times, particularly in their faith. The song acknowledges the challenges and struggles that people may experience in their lives, but encourages them not to give up as they have a place in God's will. The lyrics suggest that, although there may be a war going on, people do not have to sing another "sad song" or feel defeated. Instead, they are advised to fight, knowing that no weapon that's formed against them shall prosper.
The song continues by reminding the listener that they are not fighting to win, as the battle has already been won, but they are wrestling to sustain their hope and eternal gain. The lyrics suggest that tests and trials come to make people strong and to perfect them, just as gold without fire can never be pure gold. The song offers a message of faith and hope, emphasizing that although there may be challenges, people can overcome them with God's support.

I followed Commissioned from the first Cd to the last. God used them to encourage me many times when things was hard. No other group transitioned as well as this one. There was a time when you almost couldn't tell the difference between Fred and Marvin, the transition was just that smooth and still retained it's anointing. These my home boys

They set the standard for the entire music industry; especially in the 90s. The explosion of the best melodic r&b groups owe their foundation to Commissioned. Our parents and grandparents had The Wynans, Shirley Caesar and Andre Crouch and so on. We got Commissioned
