Singer / songwriter / bassist Napolitano formed the band Dream 6 with guitarist James Mankey in Los Angeles in 1982, releasing an eponymous EP in France on the Happy Hermit label in 1983. When they signed with IRS in 1986, labelmate Michael Stipe suggested the name Concrete Blonde, describing the contrast between their hard rock music and introspective lyrics. They were joined by drummer Harry Rushakoff on their eponymous debut album. Roxy Music drummer Paul Thompson replaced Rushakoff on Bloodletting and several tracks on Mexican Moon, while Rushakoff was in treatment for drug addiction. Rushakoff was kicked out of the band in 2002 for failing to show up for several rehearsals and shows. He was replaced by Gabriel Ramirez.
Their most popular album was 1990's Bloodletting. The band broke up in 1995, but reunited in 2001, releasing Group Therapy in 2002 and Mojave in 2004.

With a circus smile running 'round
Butterflies and zebras
And moonbeams and fairy tales
That's all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind
When I'm sad, she comes to me
It's alright, you know it's alright
Take anything you want from me, anything
When I'm sad, you come to me
With a thousand smiles you know you set me free
It's alright, you know it's alright
Take anything you want from me, anything
You can take anything
Fly on, fly on little wing
Fly on little wing
Yeah, oh hey yeah, fly
Hey hey, yeah, fly on, yeah, fly on, oh yeah
Yeah, yeah
Oh it's alright
Fly on and on and on and on and on, hey yeah
It's alright
The lyrics to the song Little Wing by Concrete Blonde seem to describe a carefree girl that lives in a world full of fantasy and wonder. She is always happy, with a circus smile on her face, and her mind is full of butterflies, zebras, moonbeams, and fairy tales. She loves to ride with the wind and is always looking for new adventures. When the singer is sad, this girl comes to him and gives him a thousand smiles, making him feel better. He tells her that she can take anything she wants from him because he wants to make her happy as well, and he finds comfort in her carefree spirit.
The song seems to be about the power of imagination and how it can help us escape from our problems. The girl in the song represents the power of the imagination, with all of the fantastical creatures that fill her mind, and the singer represents someone that needs an escape from reality. The song’s chorus emphasizes the idea of flying away or escaping, with the repetition of the phrase “fly on little wing”. This phrase suggests that the girl’s mind is like a little bird that can fly away from her problems, and the singer wants to do the same.
