I Want To Be A Cloud

And float up in the sky above the crowd
I’d be on the lookout for someone just like me
Who’s looking up into the sky to see what she can see
I’d go ahead and puff myself up in the shape of things
Like a tricycle or a hamburger or a giant diamond ring or
A space ship, a whale or a penguin or a giant hat
Then ev eryone would stop and say
Yes, when I grow up I want to be a cloud
And float up in the sky above the crowd
I’d rain upon the flowers just to watch them grow
I’d only bring the gentle rain
I’d never bring the snow
I might make a little thunder
But not very loud
I think it would be grand to be a cloud
The song "I Want To Be A Cloud" by Connie Kaldor expresses the yearning of the singer to be free, light and joyful like a cloud. The lyrics epitomize the desire to escape the humdrum of everyday life, to be above the crowd and observe the world from a new perspective. The singer wants to puff herself up in the shape of different things, such as a tricycle, a hamburger, a diamond ring, a spaceship, a whale, a penguin or a giant hat, just like how clouds take various shapes as they float along. She longs for the attention and admiration of others as she moves through the sky.
The song also touches on the theme of nurturing and growing. The cloud would rain upon the flowers just to watch them grow. The singer would only bring gentle rain and never snow. She may even make a little thunder but not too loud. She would never hurt anyone, just like how clouds bring life and sustenance but never harm anyone. The song portrays the cloud as a symbol of hope and happiness, a source of wonder and amazement, and an embodiment of the singer's innermost desires.
