Consequence Lyrics

Man I promise, when I get old enough
I'mma buy you a limo, and we gon' go to Red Lobster
And you can get all the, all the lobster tails that you want
Cause I'mma be rich! Yeah I'mma be rich, uhh

When you make that money boy they say don't you forget 'em
When you make that money boy they say don't you forget 'em
When you make that money boy they say don't you forget 'em
When you make that money boy they say don't you forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, don't don't forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, don't don't forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, don't don't forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, Cons don't forget 'em

I finally got my first real money
So should I turn Hollywood? I probably could
And turn my back on the hood
And never go back, but I ain't with that
See this is where I learned to rap, and this is where I learned to scrap
And this is how I learned to stack
Penny by penny and bit by bit
Watchin' the older heads move brick by brick
And one hand would wash the other, and one aunt would watch your brother
And your father wound up watchin' your mother
And the prettiest smile you ever discovered
Becomes when you call her face
And your second cousin lost his case
They gave him 25-to-life, what a waste
And they tryin' to pay your lawyer, but they just ignore ya
So he ended up goin upstate, uhh

When you make that money boy they say don't you forget 'em
When you make that money boy they say don't you forget 'em
When you make that money boy they say don't you forget 'em
When you make that money boy they say don't you forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, don't don't forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, don't don't forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, don't don't forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, Cons don't forget 'em

I finally got my first real money so of course they all
Up in my grill 'cause they need help with the bills
And I'm like "Homie just chill. I got you my nig, just let me get big"
And I promise I'll be back, 'cause I need the feedback
And the honesty every time that you react
'Cause nothin' can buy that, nothin' provides that
'Cept when you drive back
And cruise through the blocks of the hood you're from
To holla at your folks, that's the rule of thumb
'Cause y'all came up together, y'all was crew from young
But some of them went on to abuse them drugs
Confusin' love, for they addiction
Now they out there on a mission
And lost sight of the do's and don'ts
But I'll be wrong if I forgot so I won't

When you make that money boy they say don't you forget 'em
When you make that money boy they say don't you forget 'em
When you make that money boy they say don't you forget 'em
When you make that money boy they say don't you forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, don't don't forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, don't don't forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, don't don't forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, Cons don't forget 'em

You are me, and I am you
And I won't ever forget, word
Uhh

When you make that money boy they say don't you forget 'em
When you make that money boy they say don't you forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, don't don't forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, don't don't forget 'em

Don't forget 'em, don't don't forget 'em
Don't forget 'em, Cons don't forget 'em

Overall Meaning

The song "Don't Forget Em" by Consequence is about the importance of not forgetting one's roots and the people who helped them come up in life, even as they achieve success and financial stability. The song begins with Consequence promising to buy his loved one a limo and take them to Red Lobster to enjoy all the lobster tails they want because he is going to be rich. He then acknowledges the pressure that comes with wealth, which is not to forget the people who were with them through thick and thin.

In the second verse of the song, Consequence recounts his struggle to rise and earn money. He considers whether to become Hollywood and turn his back on the hood, but he does not want to forget his roots. He says that he learned to rap, scrap, and stack money in the hood and gives credit to the older heads who taught him. He also laments how some of his people went astray with drugs and addiction and ended up in jail. In the end, he promises never to forget his people, and they are all one.

The song "Don't Forget Em" has deep meaning, and it's relatable to people who work hard to achieve success and forget their blood and sweat in the process. It encourages people to remember their roots, people who supported and stood beside them when they were lesser-known. The song's message speaks of the importance of loyalty, gratitude, and never forgetting one's past.

Although I could easily leave the struggles of the hood behind and pursue a glamorous Hollywood lifestyle with my newfound wealth, I choose to remember where I came from. The hood is where I gained valuable experiences that helped me develop my skills and accumulate my earnings. I learned the value of working hard and watching the older generation move in unity, and how to save and accumulate wealth bit by bit. The importance of family also hits closer to home, with my father taking care of my mother and relatives facing legal troubles. Even when help is promised, circumstances may make it impossible, leading to negative consequences.

I finally got my first real money so of course they all Up in my grill 'cause they need help with the bills And I'm like "Homie just chill. Now that I have money, everyone is constantly asking me for financial help. But I assure them to just relax and let me grow more successful. I will always come back for feedback, as honesty is something money cannot buy. By driving back through my old neighborhood and talking to my old friends, I am reminded of the rule of thumb to never forget where we came from, as we grew up together and were a crew from a young age. While some friends may now struggle with drug addiction and have lost their way, I won't forget them, even if their choices do not always align with societal norms.

You are me, and I am you And I won't ever forget, word Uhh
We are all one, so I will never forget where I come from or the people who helped me get to where I am today.

For those of us that love hip hop in such an immeasurable way, it's painful when the artists you want to hear the most, are silent, like Cons. Man, I wish he was active and just out there for his music to enjoy. This guy is amazing and I say that with the experience of a life lived from the very start of Hip Hop back in the late 70's until today. Hip Hop is about love, joy, pain, the stuggle, the past and the future, and, many other things. This is such an amazing song. His work with ATCQ is also amazing, everything he does is amazing. Where you at Cons?

This brings me back to 10 years ago. I have a vivid memory of driving to my girl's house high as shit in a snowstorm. Something about that moment always stuck with me. This was the song that was playing.
