Origin of Jenkins Stage Name--------- Jenkins felt that his real name wasn't marketable, and he changed his show business name in 1957. (Harold Lloyd Jenkins would always remain his legal name, however). Looking at a road map, he spotted Conway, Arkansas and Twitty, Texas. Thus, he went with the professional name of "Conway Twitty".[citation needed]
Alternatively, Jenkins met a Richmond, VA, man named W. Conway Twitty Jr. through Jenkins' manager in a New York City restaurant. The manager served in the army with the real Conway Twitty. Later, the manager suggested to Jenkins that he take the name as his stage name because it had a ring to it. The Richmond Conway Twitty subsequently recorded the song, "What's in a Name But Trouble," in the mid-1960s, lamenting the loss of his name to Jenkins. The flip side of the 45 RPM record was "The Purple, Purple People Eater, Eater." (The more well known version of Purple People Eater, however, now having sold over 100,000,000 copies, was recorded by Sheb Wooley.)

Fix your hair, dress up right
Paint your fingertips nice and red
But leave your sweet, sweet lips alone
Little Lucy, don'tcha put no lipstick on
(Little Lucy) don'tcha put no lipstick on
Before the night is through
Right off of you
Baby, you can wear your French perfume
The pink chenise that rocks the room
But if you want a little old love to bloom
Leave your sweet, sweet lips alone
Little Lucy, don'tcha put no lipstick on
(Little Lucy) don'tcha put no lipstick on
Before the night is through
I'm gonna kiss it right off
Off of you
Baby, do you want the folks to know
How your lips, mmm, thrill me so
Every little kiss we share, we'll show
So leave your sweet, sweet lips alone
Little Lucy, don'tcha put no lipstick on
(Little Lucy) don'tcha put no lipstick on
Before the night is through
I'm gonna kiss it right off
Right off of you
Yeah, Little Lucy
Don'tcha put no lipstick on
Baby, don't you do it.

Conway Twitty's song Hey Little Lucy is classic country music that tells the story of a man who is taking his beloved out for a night on the town. He wants her to look perfect, to fix her hair, put on a beautiful dress, and paint her fingertips bright red. But the one thing he doesn't want her to do is put on lipstick. He wants to kiss her lips and doesn't want any lipstick to interfere with that. The lyrics are simple and straightforward, but the underlying message is one of love and intimacy.
The repetition of the phrase "Little Lucy, don'tcha put no lipstick on" throughout the song emphasizes the man's desire for his partner to leave her lips bare. He wants to kiss her and lose himself in the moment, without any distractions. The lyrics also suggest a certain timelessness and traditionalism of relationships, where a man wants to see his partner's natural beauty and doesn't want her to change herself in any way.
Overall, Hey Little Lucy is a charming and romantic song about the small things that matter in a relationship, such as a simple kiss without any interference from lipstick.

Fantastic Rock Voice of Conway Twitty. A pure rocker from the fifties !
Daniel Burns
this song only went to #87 on the pop charts in 1959!!!
Peter Emmert - the 1956 Grey Goose
With changes in lyrics and instrumentation from the mono 45 issue (and a faster fade-out), this still is one of the better releases (especially when MGM put their anniversary red-letter notice on my 10-for-$1.00 copy).
