Origin of Jenkins Stage Name--------- Jenkins felt that his real name wasn't marketable, and he changed his show business name in 1957. (Harold Lloyd Jenkins would always remain his legal name, however). Looking at a road map, he spotted Conway, Arkansas and Twitty, Texas. Thus, he went with the professional name of "Conway Twitty".[citation needed]
Alternatively, Jenkins met a Richmond, VA, man named W. Conway Twitty Jr. through Jenkins' manager in a New York City restaurant. The manager served in the army with the real Conway Twitty. Later, the manager suggested to Jenkins that he take the name as his stage name because it had a ring to it. The Richmond Conway Twitty subsequently recorded the song, "What's in a Name But Trouble," in the mid-1960s, lamenting the loss of his name to Jenkins. The flip side of the 45 RPM record was "The Purple, Purple People Eater, Eater." (The more well known version of Purple People Eater, however, now having sold over 100,000,000 copies, was recorded by Sheb Wooley.)

Down lovers lane we were walkin'
She said, "Honey child, do you love me?"
Right away I started talkin'
Is a bluebird blue?
Has a cat got a tail?
Hmm, is a blue bird blue?
Well, I held her close and kissed her
Then, I looked in those big green eyes
She said, "A hey boy, do you love me?"
I said, "I wouldn't be at all surprised"
Is a bluebird blue?
Can a big wheel roll?
Hmm, is a bluebird blue
Then honey, I love you
Well, she finally believed my story
Said, "Baby, I understand"
Well, I'm gonna be your little lovin' girl
And you'll be my big lovin' man
Is a bluebird blue?
Ah, has a bear got hair?
Hmm, is a bluebird blue?
Then honey, I love you
Ah, is a bluebird blue, baby?
Tell me honey, has a bear got hair?
Ooh, can a big wheel roll?
Has a cat got a tail?
Conway Twitty's song "Is a Bluebird Blue" talks about a night out with his girlfriend, where they were walking down lovers lane. While walking, she asks him if he loves her, and he responds by asking if a bluebird is blue, if a big wheel can roll, if a bear has hair, and if a cat has a tail. The song goes on with this theme of asking rhetorical questions to communicate his love for her. Eventually, she understands his message and they both profess their love for one another.
The lyrics of the song seem simple but its meaning is abstract. It suggests the doubts people face in love and their attempts to ask questions to understand the other person's feelings. Moreover, the repetition of rhetorical questions makes it seem like a child's game, but it also emphasizes the simplicity of love.
There are also religious connotations in the lyrics of the song. Bluebirds are believed to symbolize happiness and love in many religions. The man asking whether a bluebird is blue may be a reference to his search for true happiness and love, which he finds in the woman he's with.
