Technology
Corey Smith Lyrics

Well I've never been to Colorado
Or had a Rocky Mountain high
And I've never seen the Denver Broncos
Or watched a tumbleweed blow by

But I've got a 42 inch TV
High definition, crystal-clear
200 channels beamin' from above
Yeah, I can see the world from here
I can see the world from here

Well I've never been to New York City
Or took a stroll through Central Park
I've never waved up at that lady in the Harbor
Or been on Broadway after dark

But I've got a new laptop computer
A bluetooth speaker in my ear
A wireless connection to anywhere I want
Yeah, I can see the world from here
I can see the world from here

Lately I've been gettin' bigger,
They say it's lack of exercise
Yeah, the double chins keep creepin' in the mirror,
I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise

But I bought an elliptical trainer
It's got a built-in plasma screen
Now I can get my cardio with my MTV
Yeah, you gotta love technology
You gotta love technology

I've never been to Colorado
And I probably never will
Yeah I do all my travelin' by remote controls
And I'm as happy as can be here sittin' still
Yeah I'm as snug as a bug in a rug

Happy like a pickin' bud
Yeah I'm doin fine on my behind just sittin still

Overall Meaning

Corey Smith's "Technology" is a song about how modern technology has changed the way people experience the world. The singer has never visited iconic American landmarks like the Rocky Mountains, New York City, or the Statue of Liberty, but thanks to a 42-inch high-definition television, a laptop computer, a bluetooth speaker, and an elliptical trainer with a built-in plasma screen, he can virtually visit any place he wants without leaving the comfort of his home. The singer is fascinated by this ability to see the world without traveling, and he's content with his sedentary lifestyle.

In the first verse, the singer describes his high-tech television, which can beam 200 channels to him at any time. He boasts that with this television, he can "see the world from here." In the second verse, he talks about his computer and its ability to connect him to any location in the world. With his bluetooth speaker, he can even listen to music while he virtually travels. The third verse is a bit lighter in tone. The singer admits that he's been getting out of shape, but he remedies the problem by buying an elliptical trainer with a built-in plasma screen that allows him to exercise while watching MTV. The song ends with the singer expressing his satisfaction with his technologically-enhanced lifestyle, saying "Yeah, I'm doin fine on my behind just sittin' still."

Overall, "Technology" is a humorous commentary on how modern technology has changed how people experience the world. Through a combination of sarcasm and wit, Corey Smith points out the absurdity of our reliance on technology to experience the world instead of actually going out and exploring it.
