It has been suggested that Page collaborated with Coverdale in order to irk Page's former Led Zeppelin band-member Robert Plant, who up to that point had been reluctant to re-unite with Page.[1] In interviews at the time, Plant expressed some derision at the guitarist's collaboration with Coverdale.[2] Rumours emerged that Coverdale and Page would be joined by John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham in a reformed Led Zeppelin, but this did not pan out.[citation needed]
This studio album marked a return to commercial success for Page since his days with Led Zeppelin. However, after a series of concerts in Japan, sluggish tickets sales for a subsequent world tour resulted in the partnership being dissolved. Page subsequently teamed up with Plant for an "UnLedded" MTV project and Coverdale re-appeared from time to time with different Whitesnake line-ups.

Stars to fill my dreams
I am a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been
This world is seldom seen
Talk of days for which they sit and wait
But, all will be revealed
Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace
Whose sounds caress my ear
Though, by a word I heard could I relate
The story was quite clear
Whoa-hoh, whoa-oh, yeah
Yes, yes
Oooh, oh baby, baby, I been cryin'
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, there's no denyin', there's no denyin'
Oooh yes, baby baby, I've been flyin', oh yeah
Lord, mama, ain't no denyin', no denyin', no denyin'
Here's another one to ya
All I see turns to brown
As the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand
As I scan this wasted land
Tryin' to find now, where I been, yeah
Pilot of the storm who leaves no trace
Like thoughts inside a dream
Who heed the path that led me to that place
Yellow desert screen
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon
I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high in June
When movin' through Kashmir
Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails
Across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face
'Long the straits of fear
Wha-oh, wha-oh, yeah
Whoa-hoh, whoa-hoh, ohh-oh-oh-hooooh
Well, when I want, baby, when I'm on my way, yeah
When I see, baby, when I see the way you stay, yeah
Well I'm down, when I'm near
Please, please, tell me where I've been
Oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh
Whooooooo, yeah-ee yeah
Whoo, yeah, I can take you there, take you there
Oh, my baby, ooh my baby, let me take you there, oh-oh
Ooh darlin', yeah, darlin', yeah
Tuadon, tuadid, oh yeah
Suanon, suadid
Suanon, suadid
Suanon, oh-oh-oh
Yeah, yeah
Hey baby, pretty baby, oh baby
Hey baby, pretty baby, oh baby
Hey baby, pretty baby, oh baby
Feel, feel, feel, feel, feel, feel,
Feel, feel, feel, feel, feel, feel
Suanon, suadid
Suanon, suadid
Suanon, yeahhh
Thanks a lot, see ya later
The lyrics to Coverdale/Page's "Kashmir" are a poetic representation of a spiritual journey. The singer describes himself as a traveler of both time and space who has sat with elders of a gentle race and learned about days that are yet to come but will be revealed in time. He hears talk and song from tongues of lilting grace that caress his ear, and by a word, he hears the story clear.
The second part of the song is more abstract, as it speaks about all the singer sees turning to brown as the sun burns the ground and his eyes fill with sand. He tries to find where he's been while piloting the storm and leaving no trace. He mentions his Shangri-La beneath the summer moon and how he'll return again as sure as the dust that floats high in June when moving through Kashmir. He asks the father of the four winds to fill his sails and guides him across the sea of years with no provisions but an open face.
The song can be interpreted as a quest for spiritual enlightenment or a pilgrimage through life, searching for a place of belonging. It's an epic journey that is both introspective and mystical, with each verse adding more depth to the meaning. This piece of music is a prime example of rock fused with Eastern and Middle Eastern musical composition, which became one of the unique sounds of rock and roll. It perfectly meshes the Western style of music with Eastern tonality, making it attractive globally.

Coverdale did pretty well. We should not compared him with Plant because they have their own style. I like both and this version is very nice!!!!
Francesca Canova
Sir Coverdale has a fantastic voice! Every phrase of the song is chills!
Oscar Saines
I'm glad they did this. It's about having a good time. Every band is doing it.

Coverdale is pretty good when it comes to songs like Rock and Roll or Black Dog. But to sing Kashmir you have to dig deeper than this. He managed to save his voice from damnation (unlike Plant) but he simply doesn't posses the magic needed to sing this properly.

HORRIBLE, imho! A monstrosity. Was Pagey on hard drugs when he got this idea????? I assume R.P. at least got some royalties from this debacle.

Very impressive Coverdale 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Stop comparing Plant with Coverdale. They are totally diffent singers. Plant is a Tenor while Coverdale is a baritone with a very wide range. They do sound great both

Plus one guy had pretty decent pitch overall while the other is all over the place.
