Painted Skies
Crimson Glory Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When she's sad the world is lonely
Silver clouds are crying only
For the pain she feels
So deep inside

The love she thought would save her
Has somehow now enslaved her
To a dream she though she wanted
To come true

Spread your wings you can fly
But the dove is never free
In painted skies that shade the color
Of your dream
Only nightmares are real
Confusion conceals the only reason
For the feelings you can't hide

When she smiles the world it shines
But the silver clouds are only there
To hide the distant storm
That's coming soon

The love she let surround her
Has become the waves that drown her
In the sea of ever-changing
Warmth and cold

Spread your wings you can fly
But the dove is never free
In painted skies that shade the color
Of your dream
Only nightmares are real
Confusion conceals the only reason
For the feelings you can't hide
You can fly

Spread your wings you can fly
But the dove is never free
In painted skies that shade the color
Of your dream
When the nightmares ensue
All that you can do is paint your sky
Another brighter shade of blue
Spread your wings you can glide
Above the violent storms
That plague your life

You paint the picture blue or grey
Fly away

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Crimson Glory's song "Painted Skies" describes a story of love, dreams, and how they can become illusions that can either liberate or enslave a person. The song seems to talk about a woman who is currently in a situation where she feels trapped and lonely. She might be in a toxic or suffocating relationship where the man she loves has become her prison, instead of being her liberation. When she smiles, she can hide her pain behind a façade of happiness, but deep inside, she feels like the world is against her, and the only solace she has is in the silver clouds that shade the colors of her dream.

The chorus of "Painted Skies" emphasizes that although you may spread your wings and fly, loved ones may still hinder you from being entirely free. The painted skies of a dream that seem beautiful from afar might hide nightmares that could come to life. The confusion that is brought about by these feelings is the reason why one cannot hide or escape from them. However, the song tells us that life is not made up solely of nightmares, and one can always paint their skies with a brighter shade of blue to help them conquer the storms that plague their life.

Από τα καλύτερα τραγούδια που έχουν ακουστεί ποτέ σε αυτόν τον άμοιρο πλανήτη! Μία φωνή που και οι Άγγελοι ακόμη θα ζηλεύαν μοχθηρά!!!

I once met Midnight at a club/bar many many moons ago. I had no idea who he was or his vocal abilities. It was until I moved from the Tampa Bay area to the Bay Area of California that a friend popped in this cd. I asked "who is this?" with amazement in my voice. He said Crimson Glory, from Tampa,Fl. The lead singer's name is Midnight. I was plucked! If only I had known who I had met that night with the name Midnight. May the skies be painted with your voice forever..... R.I.P. Brother....

Transcendence was a real metal masterpiece. Crimson Glory's first two albums set the bar so high for well written and intelligent metal. Vocally, Midnight was in a class by himself. Intense, powerful, evocative, and (at times) seeming to be on the edges of madness, he brought whatever emotion any particular song needed. This song is the epitome of a great metal power ballad.

Very, very good

agree; well said

@ardius9777

And nobody remembers Astronomica? Wade Black's incredible vocals sounded more like Rob Halford than Ripper Owens did on that album! Come on people!

@86guitartane2001

Ardius sorry my friend, but (speaking strictly for myself) I just didn't feel it with that release. While it was a good effort (again, speaking strictly for myself) it paled in comparison with the the first album and Transcendence. Then again, music speaks to different individuals uniquely, and that makes for good discussions.
