Counting On Disaster
Curtis Peoples Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Come around, come around when you need love again
Break down, break down and then you're gone
This stuff ain't getting any easier
Won't keep pretending nothing's wrong
Give it up, give it up, they won't keep me around
Your lips no longer have control
Is now so easy to let go, oh yeah
[chorus]
The feeling comes and goes
I swear you'll never know
I'm tired of counting on disaster
So high, and then you're low
I got nowhere to go
I'm tired of counting on disaster
[verse 2]
Feel the rest, feel the rest of your heart break
They'll punish me cause you've lost hope, no
That's enough anger from your sad tonight
This war is done, I'm goin' home, no
[chorus]
Woah, oh, oh (x4)
I don't feel loved, you don't need to hold me
[chorus] (x2)
I'm tired of counting on disaster (x4)
In Curtis Peoples's song Counting On Disaster, the lyrics seem to convey a sense of exhaustion and frustration with a relationship that is unstable and filled with ups and downs. The first verse describes the cycle of the relationship, with the other person coming back for love but then breaking away again. The singer expresses that they can no longer pretend that everything is okay and that they are tired of being left hanging, waiting for the other person to return. They have come to a realization that they can no longer continue to depend on this unstable connection.
The chorus emphasizes this exhaustion, with the singer declaring that they are tired of counting on disaster. The constant emotional rollercoaster of the relationship has worn them out, and they are ready for something more stable. The second verse brings in the idea of punishment and anger from the other person, indicating that the relationship is not just unpredictable but also possibly volatile. The singer decides that enough is enough and that they are done with the back-and-forth, ready to go home and be free from the emotional turmoil.
Overall, the lyrics suggest a need for closure and peace, with the singer tired of being at the mercy of this unstable connection. The repetition of the phrase "counting on disaster" underscores the weariness and disappointment that come from constantly hoping for something better and being let down.
