Holding Me Down

All the drama that you put me through, whoa
I've second guessed my reasoning
For giving all I have to loving you
Can't wait another night
I'm getting out tonight
I'm gonna lay it all out
Wrapped up in chains, yeah, you're holding me down
Gotta break away if I'm gonna survive
To hell with you, baby, my worst love of all time
A little love you gotta try
To get me in of get me outta here, whoa
Before you laugh, you always cry
Moods changing like the ring you wear
Won't wait another night
I'm getting out tonight
I'm gonna lay it all out
Oh, I feel like leaving 'cause you're holding me down
Wrapped up in chains, yeah, you're holding me down
Gotta break away if I'm gonna survive
To hell with you, baby, my worst love of all time
Listen to me baby for a second if that's alright, alright, all
Running out of reasons why I'm back here every night (what I'm crying about)
Nothings ever felt so wrong in my life (what I'm crying about)
Gotta let me out before I give up all my pride, my pride, my pride, my pride, my pride, my pride, my pride
Oh, I feel like leaving 'cause you're holding me down
Wrapped up in chains, yeah, you're holding me down
Gotta break away if I'm gonna survive
To hell with you, baby, you've wasted my time
Oh, I feel like leaving 'cause you're holding me down
Wrapped up in chains, yeah, you're holding me down
Gotta break away if I'm gonna survive
To hell with you, baby, my worst love of all time
In "Holding Me Down" by Curtis Peoples, the singer is expressing his frustration with a toxic relationship that has left him feeling trapped and hopeless. He is tired of the drama and mood swings that he experiences when he is with this person, and he has finally reached his breaking point. He knows that in order to survive, he needs to break away and put an end to the pain and suffering that he has endured for too long.
The lyrics in the chorus, "Oh, I feel like leaving 'cause you're holding me down. Wrapped up in chains, yeah, you're holding me down. Gotta break away if I'm gonna survive. To hell with you, baby, my worst love of all time," showcase his desire to escape the emotional prison that his partner has created for him. The use of the metaphor of being "wrapped up in chains" and "holding me down" highlights how suffocating and restricting this relationship has become, and how it is preventing him from living a happy and fulfilling life.
Overall, "Holding Me Down" is a honest and raw portrayal of the pain and struggles that can come with being in an unhealthy relationship. Curtis Peoples' strong vocal delivery and emotional lyrics make this song a powerful anthem for anyone who has ever felt trapped or held back by someone they love.
