The Ghost Of You And Me
Curtis Stigers Lyrics

No matter what I do
Watchin' the candle flicker out
In the evening glow
I can't let go
When will the night be over
I didn't mean to fall in love with you
It isn't love, it's robbery
I'm sleepin' with the ghost of you and me
The ghost of you and me
Seen a lot of broken hearts go sailin' by
Phantom ships lost at sea
And one of them is mine
Raising my glass, I sing a toast to the midnight sky
And I wonder why the stars don't seem to guide me
I didn't mean to fall in love with you
And baby there's a name for all the things you do
It isn't love, it's robbery
I'm sleeping with the ghost of you and me
The ghost of you and me
When will you set me free
I hear the voices call
Far away footsteps down the hall
Tryin' to save what's left of my heart and soul
Watchin' the candle flicker out
In the evening glow, I can't let go
When will the night be over
I didn't mean to fall in love with you
And baby there's a name for all the things you do
It isn't love, it's robbery
I'm sleepin' with the ghost of you and me
The lyrics of "You Inspire Me" by Curtis Stigers depict the emotional turmoil and heartbreak caused by a failed relationship. The singer is overwhelmed with blues, feeling lost and unsure of what to do with their emotions. They are haunted by the memories of the past, represented by the ghost of the person they used to love. The candle flickering out in the evening glow symbolizes the fading hope and the inability to move on. The singer longs for the night to be over, hoping for some relief from their pain.
The lyrics also touch upon the unexpected nature of falling in love with the wrong person. The singer acknowledges that what they experienced was not love but rather a form of emotional robbery. They feel robbed of their happiness, as they are now left sleeping with the ghost of the failed relationship. The mention of broken hearts and phantom ships lost at sea emphasizes the commonality of heartbreak and the sense of being adrift and lost.
Despite the pain and heartbreak, the singer tries to find solace by raising their glass and toasting to the midnight sky. They question why the stars, typically seen as guiding lights, can't guide them out of their emotional turmoil. The voices calling and footsteps down the hall signify the internal struggle to save what's left of their heart and soul.
Overall, the lyrics of "You Inspire Me" capture the feelings of sorrow, longing, and the struggle to let go after a failed relationship.
