It began in 2001 as the project for Dan Whitford. In 2003, Whitford recruited a band, and in 2005 toured internationally for the first time, visiting London, New York and Los Angeles. They have played with international acts Franz Ferdinand, TV on the Radio, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Junior Senior, amongst others. Cut Copy is signed to the record label Modular in Sydney.
In 2004, Cut Copy released their debut album Bright Like Neon Love. The music is written and produced by frontman Dan Whitford, who is also a graphic designer and DJ. Cut Copy released three singles from this album: "Saturdays," "Future," and "Going Nowhere."
They also released a Fabriclive album featuring a mix of several synth/retro/elektropop songs such as (for example) MSTRKRFT and New Young Pony Club.
Their second album, In Ghost Colours, was released in 2008. Four singles were issued: "So Haunted," "Hearts on Fire," "Lights and Music," and "Far Away."
In 2011, Cut Copy released their third album, Zonoscope, which included the singles "Where I'm Going," "Take Me Over," and "Need You Now." Zonoscope marked the addition of bassist and synthesist Ben Browning to the Cut Copy lineup, making the group a four-piece. Browning had previously supported the band as a touring musician throughout the In Ghost Colours Tour.

Cut Copy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I call your number
But I can't get through.
When I am looking for you,
I call your number
But I can't get through.
I call your number
But I can't get through.
When I am looking for you,
I call your number
But I can't get through.
There is a feeling in me
And I don't know why.
Is there a feeling in you
That you can't deny?
There is a feeling in me
And I don't know why.
Is there a feeling in you
That you can't deny?
There is a feeling in me
And I don't know why.
Is there a feeling in you
That you can't deny?
There is a feeling in me
And I don't know why.
Is there a feeling in you
That you can't deny?
There is a feeling in me
And I don't know why.
Is there a feeling in you
That you can't deny?
The opening lines of Cut Copy's "Saturdays" immediately set the tone for the rest of the song. The repeated phrase "When I am looking for you, I call your number, but I can't get through" conveys a sense of longing and desperation to reach someone who seems out of reach. The repetition of this line throughout the song emphasizes the frustration felt when one is unable to connect with someone they care about.
The following lines of the song address the strong emotions felt by the singer and whether or not those emotions are reciprocated. The lines "There is a feeling in me and I don't know why. Is there a feeling in you that you can't deny?" suggest that the singer is unsure if the person they are trying to reach feels the same way about them. The repetition of this verse adds to the anxiety and vulnerability expressed by the singer.
Overall, "Saturdays" is a catchy and uplifting synth-pop song that explores themes of love, connection, and communication. The lyrics provide a snapshot of the complex emotions that arise when trying to connect with someone and the uncertainty of whether or not those feelings are returned.
