D.D. Jackson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We fell in love on Geary Boulevard, ayy
With the sun comin' down on the front of my car, ayy
Felt somethin' like, somethin' like an 80's movie, yeah
Felt somethin' like, somethin' like you'd never lose me, yeah

So why we gotta check into the heartbreak hotel?
Oh hell, you know me better than myself
I don't wanna go home, no way without you
Ain't gonna be good for my health
And every roadmap leads straight to your heart
So I can't leave you tonight
No, not tonight

'Cause who's gonna drive you home
('Cause who's gonna drive you home)
When you've had a crazy day?
(When you've had a crazy day?)
Who's gonna dry your eyes
(Who's gonna dry your eyes)
When your tears fall like the rain?
Tears fall like the rain

I think we lived in a homemade video, ayy
But it's like you and I rewind to the lowest low, ayy
I always thought, always thought we could reverse it, yeah
I always thought, always thought we could be perfect, yeah

So why we gotta check into the heartbreak hotel?
Oh hell, you know me better than myself
I don't wanna go home, no way, without you
Ain't gonna be good for my health
And every roadmap leads straight to your heart
So I can't leave you tonight
No, not tonight

'Cause who's gonna drive you home
('Cause who's gonna drive you home)
When you've had a crazy day?
(When you've had a crazy day?)
Who's gonna dry your eyes
(Who's gonna dry your eyes)
When your tears fall like the rain?
Tears fall like the rain

So who's gonna drive you home?
Who's gonna drive you home?
And I'm eighty miles from goin' insane
I've been missin', missin' those days
So baby, let me love you

We fell in love on Geary Boulevard
We fell in deep, we fell so hard
Maybe one more cruise will make it alright
While you hold my hand from the passenger's side, yeah

'Cause who's gonna drive you home
(Baby, who's gonna drive you home)
When you've had a crazy day?
(When you had a crazy day?)
Who's gonna dry your eyes
(Tell me who's gonna dry your eyes)
When your tears fall like the rain? (Tears fall like the rain)
Tears fall like the rain (tears fall like the rain)

So who's gonna drive you home?
(Who's gonna drive you home? Who's gonna drive you home?)
Who's gonna drive you home?
(Who's gonna drive you home? Who's gonna drive you home?)
And I'm eighty miles from goin' insane (I'm eighty miles)
I've been missin', missin' those days (I've been missin' those days)
So baby, let me love you

So who's gonna drive you home?

Overall Meaning

The song "Home" by D.D. Jackson is a poignant and emotional piece that touches on themes of loneliness, desperation, and ultimately finding a sense of belonging. The opening lyrics describe a feeling of being trapped and weighed down by the weight of one's emotions, a sensation that is all-consuming and nearly impossible to shake. The metaphor of being bound to the ground by the "loneliest sound" is particularly powerful, evoking a sense of isolation and despair that is difficult to articulate in words.

As the song progresses, the singer describes feeling adrift and alone, with nothing to anchor them to reality except for the music that reverberates through their soul. The imagery of the "emptiest stage" and "deadliest trap" serve to reinforce this sense of desolation, highlighting the fact that even when surrounded by others, it is possible to feel utterly alone. However, despite the bleakness of the situation, the singer expresses gratitude and a sense of peace for having found a place where they feel they belong.

Overall, "Home" is a deeply introspective and moving song that speaks to anyone who has ever felt lost or alone in the world. While the lyrics are certainly somber and melancholy, there is a glimmer of hope and redemption that shines through, making the song ultimately uplifting and inspiring.

There a a couple of things that stick out to me...

1. According to a separate source, Don's ex-wife came on the scene and helped settle him down. At what point did he contact her? And why?

2. The 911 call. He sounded so emotionally disconnected from Dee Dee. He referred to her as "someone". "SOMEONE fell in my pool. She's drowning." He spoke about her as if she was a random person.

3. The article also quoted Don as saying that Dee Dee "was a good swimmer, capable of doing an Olympic style turn", but he, himself, "was not a strong swimmer." If that's true, how did he teach her to swim?

4. The 911 call. In the recording, he stated that Someone "fell" in his pool. How did she fall into the pool if he watched her swim "back and forth", until he noticed that she was no longer moving? 😳 Did she fall in or had she been swimming?

The only thing that sticks out to me is that Don supposedly taught her how to swim, yet when she started "drowning" he reached for a stick to pull her out of His pool instead of jumping in to save her. When I was younger my sisters and I didn't know how to swim, yet when I saw my little sister drowning at a pool party while all the adults were in the house, I didn't think twice about running outside and jumping into the deep end to save her. I didn't know how to swim but didn't hesitate to try to save her life and save her, I did. This is a grown man, who claimed to have been drinking and making love to his wife prior to her starting to drown , yet he sat on the side and refused to jump in. His story doesn't add up. I am sorry she had to go like that. It's sad.

That’s actually the worst thing you could do. That often tragically ends two lives. In basic training, they knew people would panic so they only extended a long body rod to save people. Due to people would try to latch on and end up drowning them both😢 It was actually the most logical thing to do. Sounds like that person actually knew the correct way to try to save her

@Cedric Stanford my ex (r.i.p.) was a trained lifeguard. A truly experienced person knows that can be a reality and knows how to address it. I have witness him do it numerous times...
