The Culture
DJ Hooligan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Eternal Afflict
Agony
Seventh Culture, The Awakening
"Pur soul is mine forever"

"Don't try to stand the sin"

"Woman, behold thy son;
Woman, behold thy mother"

"Awake, my soul, and with the sun
Thy daily stage of duty run
Awake of your dull stoth, and joyful rise
To pay thy morning sacrifice

Reedem thy mis-spent time that's past
And like this day as if thy last
Improve thy talent with due-care
For the great day thyself prepare

Let all they converse be sincere
Thy conscience as the noon-day clear
Think how all - seeing god thy ways
And all they secret thoughts surveys

Wake, and lift up thyself, my heart
And with the angels tear'em apart
Who all night long unwearied sing
High praise to the eternal lord"

(...)

"Dying forever
Your soul is mine

Dying forever
I am your messiah"

Overall Meaning

DJ Hooligan is a German electronic dance music producer who made the song "The Culture". The song features lyrics from various sources, namely,'Agony' and 'Seventh Culture, The Awakening' by Eternal Afflict, and religious texts. The lyrics "Don't try to stand the sin" is a warning to anyone who tries to defend their sins; it reminds them that wrongdoing is bad, and you should not try to promote it. The line "Pur soul is mine forever" is an ambiguous statement, which could mean different things based on interpretation. Some argue that it represents ownership or control over the soul, while others believe it signifies the protection or acquisition of the soul.

Another religious quotation used in the song is "Woman, behold thy son; Woman, behold thy mother." The line is a reference to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. When he was dying on the cross, he told his mother Mary to go home with his disciple, John. The song conveys that the line is an appeal to women to care for one another, which is a fundamental Christian value. The second verse's opening lines describe the start of a new day and urge listeners to start the day joyfully and with a clear conscience. It stresses the need to use time wisely and to prepare for eternity, as all deeds in life have consequences on Judgment Day.

Finally, the last lyrics state: "Dying forever, Your soul is mine, Dying forever, I am your messiah." The phrase reflects DJ Hooligan's vision of music as a type of religion or culture. The lyrics enforce the idea that the mesianistic DJ Hooligan brings listeners to a new era of electronic music.
