Meiso
DJ Krush Lyrics

f/ The Roots

[Malik B]

The Roots bring it from the Phila Fifth, spill the gift
The melody of a felony is straight off a cliff

Now can I get a witness to dismiss Christmas from the myth list

Man that's bogus, let's try to stay focused
You would think it was the Fourth of July

Cause in Illadelph a round of applause light up the sky
Why? Don't ask me, subtle attitudes sometimes nasty

Foul mouth bitches walk around looking trashy

Bimbos talking about where's the indo?

Crackheads leavin babies unattended at the window

To see death, and brothers with strikes who got three left
I'm trying to make it, cause if I don't I'll probably take it

But perserverence is a virtue

The person that you thinking you hurting might hurt you

Ya celly might jerk too

Perhaps I'll go to court this time when I'm summoned

But I'm a rebel to the system so I might not be coming
So if I fail, man just get up the bail

It's just more time to write another story to tell

Ill elements, drop intelligence, Black Thought Malik B

fuck up their-re-le-vance

We got strain on the brain from bodies left in the dust
Man just leave it to us, look main aim and I'll bust

Fuck betrayal just trust, all the tracks we lust

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of DJ Krush's song "Meiso" featuring The Roots provide an insightful commentary on the state of Philadelphia at the time of writing. The song begins with a verse by Malik B, who discusses the issues plaguing his city. He notes that although the fourth of July has passed, the sound of fireworks still fills the night sky, implying that gun violence is rampant in the city. He describes the people in his neighborhood as "foul-mouthed" and "trashy," implying a sense of hopelessness and lack of morality.

The theme of struggle and perseverance is also prominent in the song. Malik B states that he is "trying to make it" and acknowledges the difficulty of doing so. He also notes that he may not show up to court when summoned, due to his rebellious nature. However, he maintains that failure is not the end and that it's merely "more time to write another story to tell." The song ends on a hopeful note with the line, "With DJ Krush from Japan with no more need to discuss." This line is interpreted as a symbol of unity and solidarity, as both The Roots and DJ Krush are able to come together to produce something beautiful despite facing their own struggles in their respective contexts.

@andydiaz6384

I have had the pleasure of being able to listen to Meiso, Ki-Oku, and Jaku, love all of them

@Fullvinyl

Really tough to pick from a masterpiece, but for me, it's:
Duality
Ground
Only The Strong Survive OR Meiso

It was really tough to leave out Most Wanted Man, but Big Shug just didn't do it for me. That beat deserved much better rhymes.

Bypath - Would You Take It? .............. Only The Strong Survive (feat. C.L. Smooth)

@Edge--runner

Man, what a fucking time to be alive and what a fantastic album indeed. This reminds me of driving around my hometown with my boy, rolling blunts and just being 15-16 years old, without a care in the world. Not knowing how hard life was to become....The blissful ignorance of youth then, leaving only longing nostalgia now. Thank you Krush for being one of the albums that made up the soundtrack of my life, from high school through college

@robertvasquez5962

Felt this one man, same shit....life was superb and so was the herb!
