He is best known for his battle records and party-friendly mixtapes. Previously based out of Los Angeles, CA, he now resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. His mix tapes generally feature West Coast artists. He competed in the U.S. DMC DJ Championships in the early nineties. In 1991 he made it to the DMC US finals but was bested by DJ QBert. In 1993 he won the U.S DMC championship, the same year that he became the dj for West Coast rapper Warren G.

Possibly my favorite from Rec amongst many favorites I simultaneously love and hate this shit cuz it's so fuckin dope but then I realize I can never go back to the 90s, me 12 playing this shit so much my tape deck started eating it up and I was pretty damn poor as a kid so I straight macguyvered a way to fix it when the tape snapped using low heat and some Cellulose from film and it worked pretty damn good too only missing about 3 or 4 seconds from the last part of Players Anthem but thankfully it didn't snap at my favorite part at 4:05 shit still makes me laugh my ass off how Rec flipped the genders and body parts...and i know im far from the only one that literally thirsts for this shit and gets chills and this is no bs one of my top 10 mixtapes of all time and Rec is also in my top 10 djs no question to the point i use to get irked when id mention him to my boys and they'd say "who?" And start poking fun at the rectangle name which admittedly isn't the most hype dj name...I literally think my big brother(who put me onto Rec and countless others) and me were the only ones in New York that knew who he was but once they listened not one of em didn't find their heads bobbin and asking me for the tape to Dubb ...I hate to be one of those that refer to the past saying back then shit was real but this is a real mixtape..releases like the Weeknd's first 3 releases are Albums and deserve to be recognized as such..this right here is a mixtape, even going forward into 50's era of releases of rapping over mostly existing beats but if there's no dj hosting or mixing and all the beats and raps are new then call it what it is..an Album
