This was excruciatingly hilarious! I am American and while I am vaguely aware of having heard or read the name "Spike Milligan" somewhere, I never knew who or what a "Spike Milligan" was, it could have been an alcoholic drink for all I knew or a character in the funny pages of the newspaper.

I have liked most British humor since I discovered Benny Hill on PBS in the early 80s as a teenager, and then much later, "Are You Being Served" and Monte Python (first on cassette tapes). And this past year, The Two Ronnie's.

There seems to be a nearly inexhaustible supply of your wonderful "daft humor" or rather "humour". 😂

I'm wondering what I'll discover next.

I just wish someone would put subtitles on them all, and explain the jokes that we Americans wouldn't get. That's why I think we love Are You Being Served so much, it was based on sort of universal type characters, and we can get most of the broad humor. For example, Mr Humphreys walk is funny in any language. And when Mrs Slocum draws her eyes down and calls Mr Lucas "Y'daft ape!", that doesn't require cultural translation either.

Perhaps younger people don't realise that Spike was born in India, raised in India, went to school in India and mixed with ordinary Indian people, he spoke several Indian languages fluently and had no hint of racism in his body, he did it because he was a comic writer and he thought it was funny - now put that in the curry!

Well said

@peterking5537

Great comment. We British never had a problem laughing at ourselves. Respectfully of course.

@pauljordan4452

Sanjeev Bhaskar's character would have exclaimed: SPIKE MILLIGAN....INDIAN!

@guyfaux900

@@pauljordan4452 it's a stupid argument I mean some black people like to refer themselves as n**** but a lot don't so because of one person's f*** up view don't expect it's not going to offend at least a few people justifiably or don't bother getting into comedy. As someone with Indian blood I don't find it particularly offensive but I don't find it really that funny either if you're going to go cliche go all out or don't bother imo

Who at the time had ever thought of having Daleks in a comedy sketch. Only Spike could.

@WildPhotoShooter

Some people didn't realise Spike was a legend at the time, this sketch is one of the best bits of Brit comedy ever, I still use the words "PUT IT IN THE CURRY" when the occasion arises.

@guyfaux900

What about the comedian that literally killed it on BBCTV🕺 A performance to die for.

@alanhowe5813

Spike was a absolute comic genius never to be seen again in this weak woke age

@andypeek8151

He was completely insane and brilliant, RIP Spike.
