His distinctive voice and finger-picking guitar style has taken him across the UK and USA playing to a multitude of people, all the while never forgetting his roots. Wilde is currently in full swing promoting his debut album ‘This is The Place’ an exploration of distinctly English folk-pop but finds time to chat with us about growing up in the North, his influences and what we can expect from him in 2011
This Is The Place is the debut album from Blackpool-based singer-songwriter Dan Wilde and it's a pretty impressive place to start.
The opener, Nearest I Have To A Home', marries a memorable tune to a fine lyrics, which is the definition of a good song, and it's followed by Broke My Heart Alright' featuring an exuberant fiddle somewhat at odds with the sentiment of the song. Nevertheless, it works. These two tracks feature a full band and give Dan's voice an opportunity to soar. Elsewhere there is just voice and guitar or combinations of instruments including banjo, mandolin and ukelele.
Lyrically, the album explores themes of loss and confusion and can sometimes seem naive to the world weary ear. Others would call it honest. The arrangements, by a small cast of supporting musicians, are excellent and Dan's voice is strong and full of character - there is even a hint of the young Paul Simon about him. Listen to 'Be Gone' and you'll hear it. Dan Wilde is a name we'll be hearing a lot more of.

And now I'm waiting in the rain
I'm wondering if you're gonna make it
And explain
It's reached the point I'm barely sleeping
And I just worry through the day
Well if there's something on your mind dear
Are you leaving me? can you let me know?
Gotta make some plans, find a place to go
But you gotta say, where it all went wrong
Just tell me that, I'll be gone
Be gone
Be gone
Be gone
And you know that book that you've been reading?
Did you know I read I read it too
Is that the way that you've been feeling
I never knew
Are you leaving me? can you let me know?
Gotta make some plans, find a place to go
But you gotta say, where it all went wrong
Just tell me that, I'll be gone
Be gone
Be gone
Be gone
The lyrics to Dan Wilde's song, Be Gone, suggest a relationship on the brink of collapse. The singer is waiting in the rain for their partner, wondering if they will show up and finally give an explanation for their distant behavior. The singer is worried and unable to sleep, indicating the gravity of the situation. The lyrics repeatedly ask for communication from the partner, asking for them to reveal what has gone wrong and where the relationship stands. In the chorus, the singer states that they will leave if their partner cannot communicate with them, saying "tell me that, I'll be gone" three times.
The mood of the song is melancholic with a sense of urgency. The repetition of "be gone" in the chorus reinforces the idea that the singer is ready to leave if the situation can't be resolved. The line "Is that the way that you've been feeling, I never knew" suggests that the issues in the relationship may be the result of a lack of communication and understanding between the two partners.
Overall, the lyrics to Be Gone are a plea for communication and honesty in a relationship that is struggling. The singer is ready to leave if their partner can't open up to them, which adds a sense of tension and desperation to the song.
