Rang her up and her father said
"She's gone, you're too late, boy, she's already been taken"
Rang again, what her father said was wrong
"It's not true, boy, daddy was mistaken"
What am I to do about it?
What am I to do about this thing?
'Cause I don't even know how much I love her
Rang her up and her father said
"She's gone, you're too late, boy, she's already been taken"
Rang again, what her father said was wrong
"It's not true, boy, daddy was mistaken"
What am I to do about it?
What am I to do about this thing?
There's no way I can feel about it
'Cause I don't even know how much I love her
I consider you so expendable
You might as well pack your bags and go
I don't need you
My whole world revolves around me
Inflate my ego
I consider you so expendable
You might as well pack your bags and go
I don't need you
My whole world revolves around me
Inflate my ego
Rang her up and her father said
"She's gone, you're too late, boy, she's already been taken"
Rang again, what her father said was wrong
"It's not true, boy, daddy was mistaken"
What am I to do about it?
What am I to do about this thing?
There's no way I can feel about it
'Cause I don't even know how much I love her
I consider you so expendable
You might as well pack your bags and go
I don't need you
My whole world revolves around me
Inflate my ego
I consider you so expendable
You might as well pack your bags and go
I don't need you
My whole world revolves around me
Inflate my ego
I consider you so expendable
You might as well pack your bags and go
I don't need you
My whole world revolves around me
Inflate my ego
I consider you so expendable
You might as well pack your bags and go
I don't need you
My whole world revolves around me
Inflate my ego
Thank you, thank you

In "Inflate My Ego," Daniel Bedingfield sings about feeling insecure about his relationship as he tries to win back his lover who had left him. He starts off by calling her father to ask about her whereabouts only to be told that he was too late and she was already spoken for. He then calls again to confirm this news, but to his delight, her father tells him that the previous information was wrong. The song then continues with Daniel's contrasting emotions of feeling unsure about how much he loves her and yet desperately wanting her back.
The lyrics convey a feeling of narcissism and insecurity. The line "Inflate my ego" shows the destructive nature of his mindset which revolves around him and his own desires, without taking into consideration the feelings of the other person. His need for his ego to be inflated shows that he is seeking validation from his partner rather than acknowledging the problems in the relationship and trying to work on them.
The phrase "What am I to do about it?" highlights the helplessness that he feels and the fact that he is not sure how to navigate the situation. This portrays the immaturity of his character and his failure to take responsibility for his own actions.
Overall, the lyrics are a poignant depiction of the fragile nature of relationships and the need for self-reflection and growth.
