But when you start playing «Vektlaus» it’s soon evident that Kvammen is an artist who enjoys having a knife to his throat. With the help of famous musicians and his producer Even Ormestad, the man from Geilo has carved out an astoundingly vital album that bubbles with melodies, big emotions and a reckless delight in conveying music.
The sound is a lot more synth-driven and modern than on the debut album, but thematically, Kvammen’s lyrics on «Vektlaus» are centered around the eternal topic. Love, and specifically the loss of it, permeates the nine songs that constitute the record. With a commendable openness, the different stages of a breakup is portrayed, and our thoughts go to classic breakup albums like Springsteen’s «Tunnel Of Love» and Dylan’s «Blood On The Tracks».
But there’s light even in the deepest darkness, and in the album’s epic final song, «Det beste ventar fortsatt», Daniel rises from the ashes and the chaos, and establishes that:
Universet det er stort
Og me er så små me to
Men har du tenkt på kor befriande det er at det er uendeleg
Og av alt ditt auge ser
Så er lyset det sterkaste som er
Gatelangs gjennom sorg og synd
Daniel Kvammen Lyrics

The lyrics of "Gatelangs gjennom sorg og synd" by Daniel Kvammen describe the feeling of walking down the streets of Oslo at night, through sorrow and sin, but still holding on to hope and love. The singer talks about the anxiety he feels as he walks through the city's streets, but he also acknowledges the power of love, even in a world that can feel overwhelming and filled with danger. The chorus repeats the phrase "e har true på at kjærligheten fins" which translates to "I believe that love exists" and serves as a reminder to hold on to hope, even in the darkest moments.
The singer also mentions memories of dancing through the streets with someone, while feeling like he could barely breathe. The song portrays a sense of urgency to seize the day and live life to the fullest, knowing that time is fleeting and precious. The lyric "me står å dansa på køl?????" is a bit unclear, but it could be interpreted as "We stand and dance on a keel/ship?" adding a sense of adventure and danger to the song's narrative.
Overall, "Gatelangs gjennom sorg og synd" is a powerful song about the complexities of life in the city, and the importance of holding onto hope and love, even when things seem bleak.
