Ozai's raw power is insane. I've never seen anyone in the series who produced that amount of fire besides Jeong Jeong. Not to mention how he spammed lightning effortlessly. I know he was affected by the comet, but still the most powerful Fire Bender in terms of raw strength so far in the series.

I actually think Iroh was stronger according to lore, but also wiser, and prone to restraint, leaving the fire nation's ambitions behind and never showing his true strength.

He definitely killed the buzzard wasp and while he did at first attack it out of self defense to protect Momo, it gave up afterwards. Plus that strike he did at the air ship looked pretty deadly and I'm willing to bet that several people were severely injured if not killed. And there was that time he was possessed by the ocean spirit technically that wasn't completely his doing as the spirit was acting through him,though those soldiers probably either died from drowning or hypothermia.

My personal headcanon was always that this was every Avatar speaking at once except for Aang. All the other Avatars were on board with ultimate retribution for Ozai's crimes, but Aang is different from them, he holds true to his belief in pacifism from the very beginning until the very end and that's why he's able to forcefully leave the Avatar state, and ultimately why I believe he was able to take his bending away from him even being nearly consumed by Ozai's spiritual energy

But that's just my headcanon!

I love how it conveys the sheer panic ozzai feels here. Upon aang entering the avatar state he goes all but silent as he realizes that not only is he not gonna win this one, he also knows he might not even SURVIVE this fight. He’s instantly pushed on the defensive and everything he does after this is an attempt to escape or a last ditch effort to cause enough damage to get away. His attacks from that point were hardly about raw power, they were panic blasts in the vain attempt to save himself

what I hate about it was that they made her so weak compared to past avatars (in terms of power). The only fight she came close to an avatar-level strength was when she fought Zaheer. Other than that, everything was just her regular fights that were boosted by a short spurt of power from the avatar state. I really hope they don't do that to avatar genji

Korra's circumstances are far different than Aang's. She's a stronger bender than him in general. At this point in time, Aang has mastered two elements at best (air and water) whereas Korra is a master at fire, water and earth and is adept at air. When korra has used the avatar state in final battles the circumstances were very different. Versus Unalaq he too had the Avatar state (and a far more powerful spirit - Vaatu). Remember it took Wan and Raava to fight him together. However, after Raava is destroyed and Korra fuses with her again, Korra imo has more raw power in the avatar state than any previous avatar because she is now fused with a Raava that is at peak size and power. The downside for Korra is that while she has more raw power in the avatar state she no longer has the generations of skills and bending mastery passed down through the previous Avatars (like Aang had). However, Korra is now the first Avatar of the new cycle and every avatar after her will benefit from the greater strength of Raava present in the new avatar state. Skills can be rebuilt overtime (generations in this case) but the last cycle of avatars could never have acquired the full power of Raava like Korra has done for the new cycle.

Remember that Aang could’ve also win without the avatarstate. When he deflected the lightning he could’ve ended it. But he choosed his own, the hard way and found his own solution by taking his bending. An absolutely perfect way to end Aang’s character arc. Even though it was his destiny to face Ozai in combat, he refused to end the battle in bloodshed. He stuck by his ascetic nature and instead used pacifism and peace to win the fight.

One thing I noticed is Aangs biggest obstacle was not kil*ing his enemies. He was so strong it took him more effort to win the fight without bloodshed. If he didn’t care about taking a life his enemies would have been easy pickings for him.

I love how Aang was able to incorporate p much everything he learned into this battle notably feeling the Earth from Toph, redirecting lightning from Zuko, and letting go of his fear of the Fire Lord (first chakra) from Guru Pathik.

The last one especially, I'd like to believe is what finally caused him to get back the Avatar State. He was afraid of Fire Lord Ozai but the hit to the back causing the flashbacks made him realize "if I don't stop him now then all the sacrifice from the past year will have been for vain" and let go of that fear

I cry everytime I watch this. Not just because it's the ending of one of the most touching adventures I've been on as a kid, but because I see my younger brother and myself as children sitting in front of our small tube TV, not missing a single episode on Nickelodeon on our third rewatch. The clone wars went really hard if you saw the last 4 episodes and it ends in a very heartbreaking way but other than this and Clone wars, another one that comes to mind is FMAB(it’s anime though), it’s going to be very hard to see another cartoon go as hard as this.

Dude. This last fight is a cinematic masterpiece. I remember watching this live when it first aired and couldn't stop thinking about it. I immediately bought the DVD when it came out and rewatched the ending dozens of times. The only other thing that made me feel this hype was the story of AVATAR Wan from Legend of Korra. I just love how he pulls all 4 elements together, that way they are next to him at all times, so he can utilize all 4 wherever he is. And real talk, can we give it up to the camera-man!

What I like about this series is that it is clear that the avatar state is different. Everytime Aang gets into the avatar state you can only describe it as a primordial force of nature. Ozai is the pinnacle of power a regular human can achieve but compared to the avatar it is just not even close.

Its ironic that Aang uses the first water bending move he ever learned to do one of the most impressive things he's ever done by pulling the tide in to stop the fires. It was made to look like since it was an easy first move that its a low tier or weak when in fact it's ridiculously strong

Just had the impulse to look this end-battle up. Hadn't seen it since it first came out. Unbelievable artistry. Some mention wishing they were looking at it like it was the first time. No matter for me. I am still in awe...so much so that my eyes are little moist seeing and understanding the journey. Crazy you can be touched like this by an animation after almost 2 decades. "Epic" is a very fitting word.

When Azula struck him with lightning and he almost died it temporarily severed his connection to the Avatar State. The same place he was struck by lightning was the same place he hit his back unblocking his connection to the avatar state. This was the 1st and only time in season 3 he'd return to the Avatar state after that accident. One of the reasons he was afraid of fighting Ozai was because he thought his link to the avatar state was severed permanently..
