Pavor nocturnus
Dantesco Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

¿Que temores guardas en tu
Corazón?
¿Por que no te logra Morfeo
Acariciar?
Son sanguijuelas saciadas de tu
Temor
Deseo de que la noche no vuelva
Jamás

Un abismo
Esa la oscuridad

Tu lecho parece estar cubierto de
Espinas
-En la noche-
Un paño en tu rostro que no te deja
Respirar
-Por la noche-
Hipnos no llega...mas los ostros
Hijos de Nicta
-Es la noche-
Hemera se esconde y tanato te
Viene a buscar
-Esta noche-

Los visitantes nocturnos
Te vienen a enloquecer
Con las torturas de su mundo
Hasta que llegue el amanecer

Victima de los demonios
Que salen a festejar
Tu habitación, el manicomio
Donde la luz es sanidad

Y no logras encontrar la
Salida
Al edén...de la claridad

Y no puedes sanar tus heridas
Del puñal de la oscuridad

Oh! Como siento morir entre
Tinieblas
-En la noche-
Ruego a todo los dioses que
¡El día llegue ya!
-No la noche-
De la penumbra demonios, que
Me contemplan
-Esta noche-
Se burlan, ya que aunque

Amanezca... ¡ellos volverán!
-Por la noche-

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dantesco's song "Pavor Nocturnus" delve into the fear and torment that can come with the darkness of night. The song begins by asking what sort of fears are hidden in the listener's heart, and why they cannot be soothed by the god of sleep, Morpheus. The darkness is described as an abyss, and the listener's bed is covered in thorns. They seem to be suffocating under a cloth over their face, and cannot breathe. The god of sleep does not come, but other "children" of the night do – perhaps demons or ghosts. Hemera, the goddess of daytime, is hiding, and Thanatos, the god of death, seems to be on his way.

The chorus details how the "nocturnal visitors" come to drive the listener insane, torturing them with the horrors of their world until the dawn arrives. The room becomes a hospital where light is the only cure, but the listener cannot find their way out of the darkness. They are wounded by the "dagger" of the night and long for daylight. The second verse is a repetition of the first, and the song ends by saying that even if dawn does come, the demons of the night will return.

Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of someone trapped in their own fears and unable to escape the darkness that surrounds them. The use of mythological figures gives the song a haunting, otherworldly quality, and the repetition of the chorus emphasizes the ever-present threat of the night.
