Return For Love
Dark Moor Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And there I did meet
My true love
Back to my real home
Happiness complete
Soul of dove!
But I promised to her
To hear aloud hoorays
As emperor
Return
Like winds which burn
For love
Like gales which shove
In my land I stayed
Thinking of my fate
Fixed in fire
I'd invade
To the gates
Of the empire
I had to demostrate
And make my love observe
How I really deserve
To be her mate
The lyrics to Dark Moor's song Return For Love are telling the story of a man who had to leave his true love in Rome, promising her that he would return one day. The man is reflecting on his happiness and completeness when he met his true love, whom he describes as a soul of dove. He longs to return to Rome so he can hear the loud hoorays as the emperor, but most importantly, so he can be reunited with his true love.
As fate would have it, the man stayed in his land, fixed in fire, thinking of his future plans. He has a burning desire to invade the gates of the empire, but more importantly, he wants to demonstrate and make his love observe how much he deserves to be her mate. The lyrics highlight the enduring strength of love that can withstand time and distance, and the importance of keeping one's promises to those we love.
Overall, the lyrics are powerful, emotional, and poetic, with a strong emphasis on love and the lengths we go to be with the ones we love.
