Supernatural
Daughtry Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lost from the start, I might as well be on the moon
Much colder than I thought even in the month of June
No communication makes you feel so alone
Well, all we need is patience of which I've never really known

But now it's too late, it's taking over me, it feels so supernatural
And I'm pulled the other way, it's more than I can take
And I'm losing hold of everything
And no matter how I try you know I can't deny
'Cause you feel so supernatural

Every step I've taken has led me here to where you are
But all that I believe in is keeping me from seeing too far
Throwing out the questions, waiting for the right reply
Looking for the answers, tell me will it be tonight?

But now it's too late, it's taking over me, it feels so supernatural
And I'm pulled the other way, it's more than I can take
And I'm losing hold of everything
When it's more than physical it's kind of hard to see beyond the glow
And no matter how I try you know I can't deny
'Cause you feel so supernatural

Through the atmosphere I'm seeing
Glimpses of the past I'm leaving
Holding on for life as we collide

Now it's too late, it's taking over me, it feels so supernatural
And I'm pulled the other way, it's more than I can take
And I'm losing hold of everything
When it's more than physical it's kind of hard to see beyond the glow
And no matter how I try you know I can't deny
'Cause you feel so supernatural

Feels so supernatural, feels so supernatural
Feels so supernatural, feels so supernatural

Overall Meaning

Daughtry's song "Supernatural" explores the complexities of a relationship that is both overwhelming and inexplicable. The song begins with a sense of isolation and loneliness, the singer feeling as though they are lost and distant from their partner, as if they might as well be on the moon. This feeling of being cut off is heightened by a lack of communication, which makes the singer feel even more alone.

Despite this distance, however, the singer is unable to deny the intensity of their feelings for their partner, which are described as "supernatural". These feelings are so powerful that they are overwhelming, pushing the singer in a new direction and making it difficult to hold onto anything else. Even when the singer tries to analyze their relationship and ask questions, there are no simple answers or easy solutions.

As the song progresses, the singer seems to be struggling with conflicting emotions, torn between the intensity of their feelings and a sense of unease or uncertainty. The lines "When it's more than physical it's kind of hard to see beyond the glow" suggest that there is something almost mystical or otherworldly about the connection between the two people, which makes it difficult to understand or explain.

In the end, though, the singer seems to embrace the "supernatural" quality of their relationship, acknowledging that it is beyond their control or understanding. The final repetition of the chorus, with its emphasis on the word "supernatural", suggests that perhaps the singer is simply surrendering to the power of the connection between them.
