Perfect Timing
David Lee Roth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Is this just a passing fancy
Or another passing game?
Is this just a little something
That fallen angels play?
I've had a million fantasies
But that was make-believe
Baby, open up this door before I freeze
Girl, stop complaining
You're afraid of the dark
We'll go the distance
I don't think it's so far

I think it's perfect timing
Well, I tried to send a message
Yes, I tried the telephone
But I guess that I ain't lucky
And my card say no one's home
If the cards are on the table
That's a calculated risk
That's if accidental angels
Do exist
Just for a moment
If you think the moment's right
Let's not lose that moment tonight

'Cause we've got perfect timing
I'm thinkin'
This is the right time
I'm hoping you feel the same

'Cause that light at the end of the tunnel
Is the front of an oncoming train

Overall Meaning

In David Lee Roth's song "Perfect Timing," he is questioning whether the relationship he is in is just a fling, or if it's something more substantial. He asks if it's something that angels play with, showing that it could be a divine intervention that brought them together. He had a million fantasies before, but now he wants to make this one real. He wants the girl to open the door and let him in before he freezes. The girl is complaining and afraid of the dark, but David reassures her that they can make it the distance. He believes that the timing is just right for their relationship to blossom into something more.

In the second verse, David tries to send a message and call the girl, but she isn't answering. He takes it as a sign that fate is on their side, and if they play their cards right, it could work out. He believes that even if there are accidental angels watching over them, they will help guide them through their relationship. David urges the girl to seize the moment and not lose the opportunity to make something special happen. His belief that they have perfect timing fuels his hope that this is the right time for them.

Overall, the song is a catchy, upbeat rock song about taking a chance on a relationship and believing in fate. The lyrics are playful and fun, with David Lee Roth's signature vocal style adding to the upbeat nature of the song. The use of the image of fallen angels and accidental angels adds a touch of magic and whimsy to the lyrics.

Van Halen

Skyscraper was actually a really good album. I used to think Roth's solo stuff was terrible, but Skyscraper is amazing, EEAS and ALAE are pretty good. And Crazy From The Heat is a good ep

E VH. Was van Halen. Not DLR

Megalodon Sean Casey

Skyscraper is just vey clean very melodic album with at least 5 excellent songs. I didn't like A Little Ain't Enough but I will give it another try. Scorpions are coming out with a new album in Feb, the new single is called Peacemaker

Mark Wright

Eddie Van Halen restricted Dave's vocals in the band .
Only when Dave left was he able to experiment with his vocal range ....I'm glad he got the chance .

Diamond Dave was the one who made Van Halen as big as they become. Like the stuff he did with Van Halen and his solo stuff, can't say that I like Van Halen with Sammy Hagar. And Steve Vai who play lead guitar for Lee Roth is just as good as Eddie

World class entertainer.
All of Diamond Dave Lee Roth's solo albums are masterpieces in their own right.
I'm so grateful for everything DLR-related. πŸ₯°πŸ‘Œβ€οΈ

Roth really seems to be having fun with this stuff!

All of Dave`s solo work would have been such great VH tunes, if the drama and animosity didn't happen.

Chuck Berry

Great album
