The Unknown Soldier
David Meece Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You see him on the campus
As he studies with his friends
They mean no harm, they laugh
And call him preacher now and then

His words are few, he saves them
'Til he's home and on his knees
That's where he's a warrior
And he fights to see them free

He's the unknown soldier
The unsung hero, the brother on the street
He's the unknown soldier
The holy warrior who will never sound retreat

He's your unseen comrade
And his triumph will be sweet
He's the unknown soldier

There's been no bloody torture
No burning at the stake
There will be no published memoirs
No memorial for his sake

And no one calls him martyr
His blood has not been shed
Still in combat he's been faithful
In the little things instead

He's the unknown soldier
The unsung hero, the brother on the street
He's the unknown soldier
The holy warrior who will never sound retreat

He's your unseen comrade

And his triumph will be sweet
He's the unknown soldier

Overall Meaning

In David Meece's song "The Unknown Soldier," the listener is introduced to a character that is often overlooked and underappreciated - the everyday person who is fighting battles that go unnoticed by the world around them. This soldier is not adorned with medals or celebrated with parades, but rather, he blends in with the crowd, studying with his friends and quietly living out his beliefs. However, what makes this soldier stand out is his unwavering faith and dedication to his cause, which he demonstrates through his prayerful devotion and the little things he does to make the world a better place.

The lyrics paint a picture of a man who is not seeking recognition or glory but is instead content to fight for his beliefs in his own small way. He is a holy warrior who will never give up, even when the battle seems lost. Despite the fact that he will never receive recognition, his triumph will be sweet, and his legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched. Through these powerful lyrics, the song reminds the listener that everyone has the potential to be an unsung hero in their own way, and that it is often the people who go unnoticed that have the biggest impact on the world.

This is probably my favorite song by David Meece.

Such a wonderful song about "prayer warriors" such as grandparents, and parents that mostly go unnoticed by most people. God sees and rewards the faithful "prayer warriors".

Beautiful song. It´s the way it should be. The faithfulness of a pastor shows the time he spends alone with his God, just like Jesus did. Great rythm. Deep meaning.
