Having tasted fame and fortune and life as a celebrity, in October 2003 David made the shock announcement that he wanted to quit his career as a pop artist in order to concentrate full time on his songwriting. However, just six months later he made a low-key comeback as the lead-singer of indie-pop/rock band The Sham. Although they were together for less than a year the band achieved some success, releasing a single, 'Goodbye Baby' in October 2004 which, albeit briefly, topped the 7digital download chart ahead of U2 and Keane, and they appeared as one of the headline acts at the 2004/5 Hogmanay celebrations in Aberdeen, playing to a crowd of 40,000 along with Deacon Blue and Hugh and Cry.
Although never officially announcing a split, in the spring of 2005, the individual members of The Sham went their separate ways, pursuing individual projects and David returned to his 'day job', working full-time as a songwriter for other artists. To date, his most notable collaborations include: co-writer on international hit 'The Message' for critically acclaimed UK soul singer Nate James, and more recently with Julian Perretta who's debut single is due for release in August 2009.
David still performs as a solo artist occasionally, mainly at venues in the London area and is a regular at the Bedford, Regal Room and Troubadour.
In January 2007 he released a download EP entitled 'White Noise' - featuring brand new acoustic studio tracks - which, in David's own words: "Sold a sh*tload more than I thought it would". Since its release, the EP has continually hovered in and around the top 20 of the 7digital indiestore chart.
Early in 2007 David promoted the EP on the 'Lads Tour' - a mini-tour of gigs across the South of England with fellow singer/songwriters Jake Hook and Chris Townsend. The following August, he performed a series of sellout gigs at the 2007 Edinburgh Festival, as well as an impromptu appearance as a street busker with the Martians, the band he left five years earlier in 2002 prior to entering Fame Academy.
Throughout much of 2008 David wrote, played piano and gigged with Dave Gibson (another young singer/songwriter from Glasgow who has recently signed to Colombia) and in October 2008 they both performed at the ScotsCare charity gig at the Bedford in London.
In 2009 David continues to persue a career as songwriter in partnership with fellow ex-Sham member Jay Mein. The two of them recently signed a new deal with SonyATV.

The Longest Time
David Sneddon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
and its starting to get light
my empty head is pounding
and i'm longing for the night
and i have never come this far
my life's been like a pantomime
for the longest time
and you might wanna smile
but when you see my eyes
they're crying for a while
and i have never told you why
my life's an empty bottle of wine
for the longest time
whenever i feel your touch
you know i want you so much
you make all my poems rhyme
for the longest time
it's early in the morning
and its starting to get light
i wanna be beside you
i wanna feel alright
and i have never told you why
well i'll pretend i'm feeling fine
for the longest time
i know its time
The lyrics in David Sneddon's song, The Longest Time, depict a person who is struggling with the direction their life has taken. The song opens with an early morning scene, where the singer's head is pounding as they long for the night. This sets the stage for a life that has been less than fulfilling, filled with empty moments and feelings of being lost. The lyrics also suggest that the singer has been living their life as though it were a pantomime, a mere act devoid of real substance.
As the song progresses, the singer shares that they have never shared the true depth of their struggles with another person. Despite the moments of sadness and emptiness, the singer still finds joy in the company of someone they love. The lyrics beautifully express the extent to which this person means to them, suggesting that their touch is all-encompassing, making their poetry appear perfect and that being with them is what makes life even bearable.
Overall, The Longest Time is a poignant song that explores the emotional journey of someone who has been struggling with life for a while. The lyrics are relatable to anyone who has experienced a sense of directionlessness and the importance of loving relationships in keeping hope alive.
