Dead Skeletons (Iceland) came into being in 2008 as an accompaniment to an installation for a show at the Reykjavik art museum by artist Jón Sæmundur (Dead). Looking for a spiritual battle hymn for the show, Jón began recording with Henrik Björnsson (Singapore Sling) and Ryan Van Kriedt (The Asteroid #4). This initial song, Dead Mantra, became an underground hit, prompting the full length LP Dead Magick (A Records), released by the band in 2011.

WER DEN TOD FÜRCHTET KANN DAS LEBEN NICHT GENIESSEN.
HE WHO FEARS DEATH CANNOT ENJOY LIFE.
The lyrics of Dead Skeletons's song Dead Mantra reveal a profound truth about the human condition. The opening line, "Sá sem óttast dauðann kann ekkert að njóta lífsins," which translates to "he who fears death cannot enjoy life," emphasizes how the fear of death can hold us back from experiencing and enjoying the present moment. Fear is an obstacle that prevents us from fully living, and by extension, prevents us from cherishing life. Life is short and fleeting, and it's easy to put off or avoid experiences if we're constantly consumed by fear.
The rest of the song's lyrics are equally thought-provoking, with references to the cyclical nature of life and death, the transient nature of existence, and the importance of accepting the unknown. The haunting and repetitive melody of the song also adds to its introspective and hypnotic atmosphere. Dead Mantra challenges us to confront our fears and accept the inevitability of death, allowing us to embrace life more fully.
