Death Angel is often referred to as one of the key bands in the Bay Area thrash metal movement of the 1980s, and secured opening slots at club venues that decade, including opening for their peers Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Exodus, Testament, Overkill, D.R.I., Mercyful Fate and Possessed. They are also often credited as one of the leaders of the second wave of thrash metal movement from the 1980s, and considered to be one of the "big eight" of the genre (along with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Exodus and Overkill), as well as one of the so-called "Big Six of Bay Area thrash metal" (alongside Exodus, Testament, Lååz Rockit, Forbidden and Vio-lence). Following the underground success of their first two studio albums, The Ultra-Violence (1987) and Frolic Through the Park (1988), Death Angel signed to Geffen Records in 1989, and released their only album for the label, Act III, the following year. While they were touring in support of Act III, then-drummer Andy Galeon was injured in a tour bus accident and needed more than a year to fully recover. This resulted in the band's break up in 1991. However, Death Angel reformed in 2001 (without original rhythm guitarist Gus Pepa) at the Thrash of the Titans benefit concert for Testament singer Chuck Billy. The band has since released six more albums, including Humanicide (2019), to which the title track gave Death Angel their first-ever Grammy Award nomination.

Death Angel Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Written in the blood of the ones who bled
Foretelling the story of our destiny
Shadow on the fate of humanity
The tyrants of the earth have made their plans
But the future of the world is in our hands
The ending of a war that would never end
The unification of the human race at last
Brothers and sisters come together forgive the past
Deep in your heart and your soul lies the key
Step through the door to a world where people are free
If hopelessness is what you see it's what you'll get
Believe in today because the fight isn't over yet
Our sons and our daughters will live if we never say die
Shame when the ones who have wings don't use them to fly...
There's hope for the world today I know
Believe that it's not too late for love
There's hope for the world today I know
Believe that it's not too late for love
For love
The song "Word To The Wise" by Death Angel emphasizes the importance of hope, love, and unity in a world that is inundated with violence, hatred, and war. The opening lines, "Words are spoken from the book of the dead, Written in the blood of the ones who bled," suggest that the lyrics are inspired by ancient wisdom and the experiences of those who have lost their lives in battles. The song gives us hope that we can change, and we can make a difference in the world. We have the power to influence our destiny and forge a better future for humanity.
The song also criticizes the tyrants and kings who have waged wars and caused suffering and destruction in the world. The lyrics urge us to come together, forget the past, and work towards the unification of the human race. The voice of the song praises the possibilities of a new world where there is freedom, love, and peace. The song is a call to action, urging people to believe in love and hope and never lose the courage to fight for a brighter tomorrow.
