Leading up to the May 6, 2016 release of Bottomless Pit, Death Grips issued promotional content revolving around “Trash” with animator and previous collaborator Galen Pehrson.
In early April, Pehrson dropped an Instagram video promoting a fictional program called “The Caged Pillows Feelings Network.” The clip featured a vocal sample of Ride screaming, and was accompanied by the tagline, “We upload trash because we know nothing lasts forever.” In late April, he teased Caged Pillows again with a second Instagram video, claiming that the network would return with a special message on May 1 at 11:59 P.M.
Although there was no word from Pehrson on May 1, he posted a new video on the night before the album release, displaying a toll-free phone number. Death Grips took to Facebook and Twitter with the same number, writing “press 1 for trash.” Upon calling the number, a recording played. Fans were greeted to the Feelings Network by a soothing female voice and a strange, spacious soundscape. Pressing various numbers accessed different parts of the recording—pressing 1 played a low quality version of “Trash” in full.

Never last when we load trash
We upload trash
Face down, trash begets trash
We know trash, we know clean don’t last
Never last when we load trash
We upload trash
Face down, trash begets trash
I'm cloaked trash
Poker-fucking polygraphs
My dirt so baked, man menstruate
After each take test, say I passed
That’s trash, I’m trash
Kind you mine to trade for cash
You’re trash, born trash
Eye you close, all I see’s more trash, mi amor
We know trash, we know clean don’t last
Never last when we load trash
We upload trash
Face down, trash begets trash
We know trash, we know clean don’t last
Never last when we load trash
We upload trash
Face down, trash begets trash
Stoked ain’t shit
I was over that for this whole shit
Taste of my blood bliss
Fuck who I wasn’t
Commodify my lack of progress
Specifically the process
But this lukewarm elixir
My blood’s real shit, sir
We know trash, we know clean don’t last
Never last when we load trash
We upload trash
Face down, trash begets trash
We know trash, we know clean don’t last
Never last when we load trash
We upload trash
Face down, trash begets trash
Be it Motel Six to Vogue vino trash
Local Comcast to shit Vevo ads
From upper mid to been repossessed
Face down, trash begets trash
We know trash, we know clean don’t last
Never last when we load trash
We upload trash
Face down, trash begets trash
This side of my machette
Fall out mercury confetti
Ebony skies, I died already
Liquor store counting pennies
I’m in motion, do you savvy?
I exhume ‘cause it relax me
Watch you think ‘bout that? Don’t fight it
Smell me though, fucker quiet
Cyclone in a gortex shell
Audio input for my spell
Show up for what?
This cig’s too plush
Long as my smokescreen’s holding up
I hold this down like high contrast
Stills taken from shade on flash
I’m so shade tree it makes me laugh
Every time you reply "that’s fine"
We know trash, we know clean don’t last
Never last when we load trash
We upload trash
Face down, trash begets trash
We know trash, we know clean don’t last
Never last when we load trash
We upload trash
Face down, trash begets trash
Lawn glad stretch 'til it sag like breast
Off fat fucks stressed ‘cause they can’t compress
Extra bump this shit is sex, decrepit sex
Shit, I got something for this orchids
We know trash, we know clean don’t last
Never last when we load trash
We upload trash
Face down, trash begets trash
We know trash, we know clean don’t last
Never last when we load trash
We upload trash
Face down, trash begets trash
We know trash, we know clean don’t last
Never last when we load trash
We upload trash
Face down, trash begets trash
We know trash, we know clean don’t last
Never last when we load trash
We upload trash
Face down, trash begets trash
The lyrics of "Trash" by Death Grips addresses the themes of societal decay, the commodification of art, and the futility of seeking progress. The verses of the song are characterized by the repetition of the phrase "We know trash, we know clean don’t last, never last when we load trash, we upload trash, face down, trash begets trash." This repetition suggests a nihilistic worldview where everything is disposable, and the cycle continues endlessly.
The opening verse introduces the idea that trash and cleanliness are equal and opposite. The lines "We know trash, we know clean don’t last, Never last when we load trash, we upload trash, Face down, trash begets trash" suggest that everything is ultimately destined for the trash heap. The second verse finds MC Ride addressing himself as trash, politicizing the idea that all of us are in and of ourselves disposable. The lines "That’s trash, I’m trash, Kind you mine to trade for cash, You’re trash, born trash, Eye you close, all I see’s more trash, mi amor" speak to the commodification of art and the idea that everything has a dollar value.
The final verse of the song is a series of poetic phrases that touch on the themes brought up earlier in the song. The line "This side of my machete, Fall out mercury confetti, Ebony skies, I died already, Liquor store counting pennies" suggests the idea of isolation and decay. The final lines "We know trash, we know clean don’t last, Never last when we load trash, we upload trash, Face down, trash begets trash" bring the song full circle, reminding the listener that the cycle of trash generation and consumption never ends.

Black Diamond Euphoria
"He come to me with trash in his hand
He offered me, I didn't ask him
I wasn't knocking someone's trashcan down, I was running from that
When I got out, I was in that
I was already through that, I had that
I had the dumping ground, I went to the dumping ground
I went to Vox Dumping Ground. I had it all, and I looked at it and said, 'This is a bigger cleaning room than I just got out of.'
I don't want to take my time going to cleaning
I got a garbage truck and a trashcan
And ten or fifteen garbage bags
What the hell I wanna go off into -- and go to cleaning for?
Clean for what, welfare? I got all the welfare in the world
I'm the king, man
I run the dumping ground, guy
I decide who litters what and where they do it at
What am I, gonna run around and act like I'm some janitor somewhere, for somebody else's trash?
I make the trash, man, I roll the slurry
The trash is mine
I deal the trash."

for a 'rapper' who's so cryptic this is one of the most real lines I've ever heard
PK
The words of a true nihilist. Someone who has embraced death in its entirety, and respects it as well as fears it. The ones who have seen all sides of life. Not saying you have to be an alcoholic to be that person, but counting pennies at a liquor store for me was brought upon by desperation to feel and/or escape the dreary life I loved, more than an inherent craving for alcohol
