Believers
Decoder Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There are those among us that all find themselves distorted by choice.
This is a curse to humanity,
This is not how you were meant to be.
Take my hand, I will lead thee to where you need to be,
And when you wake you shall be purified and free!

So trapped by their addictions.
What about the ones you love?
Don't they mean anything, anything at all?
They all find themselves distorted by a choice.

Put faith back in your heart,
Don't let it leave your side.

No longer will you hurt! No longer will you age!
No longer will you fear! No longer will you cry!

There are those among us that find themselves compelled to change.

They know who they are.
Who will you be?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Decoder's song "Believers" address the notion of being trapped by addiction and distorted by choice. The opening lines imply that some individuals are burdened by the weight of their choices, and it is presented as a curse to humanity since people are not meant to be distorted by their decisions. The following lines, in contrast, are an invitation for the listener to take the hand of the singer and be led to where they need to be. In this way, the singer appears to offer a guide or a source of support to help the listener find their way to a better place.

The lyrics are then followed by a series of statements that seem to reflect the negative consequences of addiction. The lines "so trapped by their addictions / what about the ones you love?" suggest that addiction has a way of overtaking people, leading them to prioritize their own needs over those of their loved ones. The lyrics then pivot to a plea to put faith back in the heart and not let it leave the side. This suggestion seems to offer a counterpoint to the negative effects of addiction, encouraging the listener to focus on positive habits and choices that will help them heal and find freedom from their struggles.

The final lines seem to ask the listener to reflect on their own self-awareness and identity, asking them "who will you be?" within the context of the song's themes of addiction and finding one's path. The overall message of "Believers" is one of hope, offering a support system for those who struggle with addiction and a reminder that they have the power to choose a better path for themselves.

Yeah I loved their album. My band got to play a show with them back in I wanna say 2010/2011. I feel like the reason that this album was so good was it was very different from everything being put out at the time.
