Haddon began his recording career in the mid 90s with the Voices of Unity on the small Tyscot label. As the group leader for their three albums, Haddon expressed his forward looking musical view, merging elements of soul, hip-hop and funk in the group's Gospel music. VOU had some mild success on the Gospel charts, but by the late 90s Haddon was ready to move more clearly front and center as a solo artist. His first two solo albums, This is My Story and Chainbreaker continued his artistic development and made some moderate noise on the Gospel charts.
However, I’m not sure that even the devoted fan base he had been accumulating could have anticipated his late 2002 release, Lost and Found, his first on giant Gospel label Verity. A project as ambitious as Tonex’s noted debut, Pronounced Toe-Nay, Lost and Found is an exhaustive, inspired opus by a Gospel artist who, with its release, clearly declared himself a new Gospel star.
The disc begins sounding like a dance Gospel album, leading off with two funky numbers, “D.D.” and “Oh Yeah” (the latter featuring the ubiquitous Fred Hammond). From there it covers broad territory, including bluesy, southern soul (“Ain’t Got Nothing” and the radio hit, “Sinner’s Prayer”), Praise & Worship (“Worship Medley”), Prince-style electric soul (“It’s Me”), big ballads (“Stand Still”) and joyous calypso (“The Praises Go (Up, Up, Up)”). Haddon is literally bursting with musical ideas on the album and, amazingly, virtually all work. Equally impressive is the strong lyrical content of the disc – much of it autobiographical -- focusing principally on the power of redemption and the ability of faith to rescue lost or miscast souls.
It took me almost two months to review Lost and Found, mostly because it took so long to fully absorb such an ambitious project. Now I can clearly say that this stands, with Mary Mary’s “Thankful” and Tonex’s “O2,” as perhaps the definitive modern Gospel album of this decade, and is a must for both Soul and Gospel lovers.

We don't trust like we use to
And when you see your brother drowning
You′re coldhearted what's the matter with you
Don't pray and fast like we use to
We spend more time on Youtube
Try to rebuke the devil and he′ll say
I′m only Jesus who are you
But if my people which are called by my name
Would humble themselves and pray and then turn from their wicked ways
Gone too far
So let's go back
To the old landmark
Let′s go back
Gone too far
So let's go back
To the old landmark
Let′s go back
Let's go back
Church we use to have power Lord
Get our instructions from the Lord
Now we don′t seek the Lord
Now we do it for facebook and IG
I just call it what I see
People are dying need food to eat
Innocent blood spilled in the street
But if my people which are called by my name
Would humble themselves and pray and then turn from their wicked ways
Gone too far
So let's go back
To the old landmark
Let's go back
Let′s go back
Gone too far
Let′s go back
To the old landmark
Let's go back
Gone too far
Let′s go back
To the old landmark
Let's go back
Let′s go back
Gone too far
Let's go back
To the old landmark
Let′s go back
Let's go back
Will the real church just stand up
If you're ready lift your hands up
Oh let′s pray for rain and call on his name
Let′s go back
Go with me if ya wanna back
Let's go back
Let′s go back
If you wanna go back (Go with me)
If you wanna go back (Go with me)
If you wanna go back (Go with me)
If you wanna go back
Oh, let's go back
Oh, let′s go back
Deitrick Haddon's song 'Go Back' is a plea for the church to return to their old ways of love, trust, and seeking God's guidance. The lyrics acknowledge that we have become cold-hearted and more focused on social media than God. It speaks about the need to pray, fast, and humble ourselves before God because we have gone too far. The song urges us to go back to the old landmarks where the church had power, and we got instructions from the Lord. The landmarks being referred to are the places where our faith was formed, and we received teachings that sustained our faith throughout the years.
The song implies that the world is crying out for the church to respond to the needs of the people. Innocent blood is being spilled on the streets, and people are dying without food to eat, hence the need to go back to the old landmarks. It encourages the real church to stand up and lift their hands in prayer to call on God for rain. The rain could symbolize forgiveness, healing, guidance, and blessings that flow from the throne of grace. The song concludes with an invitation to those who want to go back to the old landmarks to join in the journey.
