Silence [Dj Tiesto Mix)
Delerium Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Give me release
Witness me
I am outside
Give me peace
Heaven holds a sense of wonder
And I wanted to believe that I'd get caught up
When the rage in me subsides
In this white wave I am sinking
In this silence
In this white wave
In this silence I believe

I have seen it, in this twilight, you're my silence
You know baby, in this twilight, I am free

Passion
Chokes the flower
Until she cries no more
Possessing all the beauty
Hungry still for more

Heaven holds a sense of wonder
And I wanted to believe that I'd get caught up
When the rage in me subsides

In this white wave
I am sinking
In this silence
In this white wave
In this silence I believe

I have seen it, in this twilight you're my silence
You know baby, in this twilight, I am free

Passion
Chokes the flower
'Til she cries no more
Possessing all the beauty
Hungry still for more

Heaven holds a sense of wonder

And I wanted to believe that I'd get caught up
When the rage in me subsides

Overall Meaning

The opening verse in Delerium [Feat. McLachlan Sarah]'s song Silence is a plea for relief from overwhelming emotions. The singer is asking to be released from the intensity of their feelings and to be seen as they are. They feel isolated from others and are seeking peace. The idea of heaven holding a sense of wonder suggests that they are searching for something greater than themselves to help them make sense of their emotions. The line "And I wanted to believe that I'd get caught up when the rage in me subsides" is a glimmer of hope, acknowledging that eventually their intense emotions will calm down and they'll be able to feel caught up in the beauty of life once again.

The next verse uses nature imagery to express the depth of their emotions. They feel as though they are sinking in a "white wave" and finding solace in the silence that comes with it. The final two lines of this verse, "In this twilight you're my silence, you know baby, in this twilight I am free," suggest that the singer has found someone who provides them with calm and relief from emotions in the same way as a twilight can bring peace after a chaotic day.

The chorus repeats the same lines as before with slight variations. The metaphor of passion choking the flower until she cries no more is suggesting that overwhelming emotions can be damaging if not properly managed. The singer is aware that they possess beauty, but still feel the hunger for more.

I had the pleasure of opening up for tiesto, I played in front of about 7,000 people and just that alone was the biggest rush of my life. Years before, I remember playing his records in my bedroom practicing my mixing and programming, dreaming of playing a stage like that. That day my life came full circle, he hit the stage after my set and hit it hard!! Old school tiesto!! Hard fast trance! And he dropped this Gem, time almost stood still, I couldn’t stop crying, I’ll never forget that moment and feeling ❤️🙏🏽

I'm 77 yrs young and just recently discovered Tiesto. Absolutely amazing!!! So glad I'm alive with all my rich lived experience ~ it really enhances listening to this. The natural high it gives me is so incredible. I agree with many who say the 'old' Tiesto is best. Don't ever count us 'ole folks out!
