La Chica Del Pelo Rojo
Deneuve Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Recitando a Morrissey: "These things take time".

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Deneuve's song La Chica Del Pelo Rojo describe a chance encounter with a girl who has red highlights in her hair and a bold red mouth. The singer is immediately drawn to her, feeling as though she is floating in her pale face. He decides to close his eyes, reciting a Morrissey lyric, "These things take time", believing that he could fly. Despite not saying it, he feels that he wants to die. He becomes obsessed with finding her, eventually reuniting with her at a place called La Comuna, where he realizes that she no longer has the same light in her hair or mouth, and seems to have lost the desire to die. The singer, however, has forgotten her name and is now with someone else, questioning whether or not they truly enjoy living.

The lyrics convey a sense of longing and desperation as the singer reminisces on the girl he met but has now lost. He feels as though he wants to die when he first meets her, suggesting a lack of fulfillment in his own life. However, when he eventually finds her again, he realizes that things are not always as he remembers them, indicating that his longing for her may have been misguided. The song also touches on bigger themes of the meaning of life and the struggle to find happiness.
