Vai nada, o ódio aumenta enquanto passa o tempo
Eu 'to de Nike, sim, porque, parça, eu consegui
Ahn, ahn, ahn, ahn
The lyrics of Derek's song "Isso É Rap?" address various themes, including racism, social inequality, and the struggles faced by marginalized communities. The first paragraph reflects the artist's frustration towards those who harm him and believe they can get away with it. He emphasizes that his anger and hatred only grow over time. The lyrics also express the artist's awareness that people may pretend to understand the issues he faces but do nothing about them. They also highlight the lack of agency and voice that his community experiences, with Derek attempting to bring attention to these issues through his music.
The second paragraph delves into the topic of cultural appropriation, as the artist challenges those individuals who appropriate black culture and identity. He speaks about his hair, suggesting that it represents more than just an Instagram trend or a rhyme. It symbolizes his identity and experiences, and he wants people to acknowledge the deeper significance. Derek also mentions the complications that arise when addressing these issues, suggesting that it is not always easy to navigate the complexities of race and identity.
In the third paragraph, the lyrics touch upon the artist's personal journey and achievements. He proudly states that he wears Nike shoes, which symbolize his success. He mentions facing difficulties and criticism, but realizing that his worth is not determined by material possessions or media appearances. Derek acknowledges the hatred he receives due to his skin color, highlighting the pervasive nature of racism.
The final paragraph of the lyrics takes a more somber tone, discussing the violence and injustice that exists in the artist's surroundings. The mention of a 13-year-old boy being killed and mistaken for someone dangerous, while only having a toy in his pocket, highlights the tragedy and brutality faced by black communities. Derek recounts hearing the gunshots and the young boy's plea for help, further emphasizing the unfairness and senseless nature of the situation. The repetition in the lyrics suggests that these types of incidents are all too common, and the ending line questions the point of it all, as the outcome is always the same.
Overall, "Isso É Rap?" portrays Derek's frustrations, experiences, and observations regarding racism, cultural appropriation, and social issues present in his community. The lyrics carry a powerful message about the need to address these injustices and aspire for change.
