In 1984-1987 and in 1998-2003 he was part of the pop duo Modern Talking as a producer, singer and songwriter. In 1986-1989 Bohlen was a producer and songwriter of disco queen C.C.Catch whom he discovered. After the first split-up of Modern Talking in 1987 he formed Blue System, which was basically an one-man group, since he was the lead singer, composer, arranger and producer. For most projects Bohlen employed background singers to produce a high-pitched chorus, if needed, and his frequent collaborator in the studio was Luis Rodriguez (listed as "co-producer"). In 1988 Bohlen signed a young 15 year old singer named Anna Garcia (Sheree) "Ronnie Talk to Russia". The record was short lived and a sex scandal was covered-up. The song was abruptly pulled at Anna's (Sheree) and her mother's request due to Bohlens sexual advances towards her in a hotel room in Turkey where she was to perform the song as an opening act for Bohlen until Bohlen attempted to force himself upon the 15 year old Garcia. After refusing to have sex with him she was forced to sleep in the hotel lobby because he refused to give her a room. After her arrival back home she demanded to be released from her contract. To avoid the scandal the record company and Bohlen quickly agreed to release Anna Garcia(Sheree)and she was released. Later Bohlen wrote music for many German movies, TV series and shows.
Bohlen was married to Erika Bohlen (born Sauerland) from 1983 to 1994 and has 3 children from this marriage. Even before he was legally divorced, he lived with - but never married - his new girlfriend Nadja Ab Del Farrag AKA Naddel. A pharmaceutical laboratory assistant, she was a background dancer for Blue System at that time. In 1996 he married model and singer Verona Feldbusch but divorced her after 30 days, propelling Verona to celebrity status (she went on to host television shows such as "Peep" and "Verona's Welt"). After breaking up with Verona he produced German boygroup Touché which was founded by one of group's five members Karim Maataoui. Bohlen eventually returned to Naddel, but the two split up again in 2000. Afterwards, Bohlen lived with 1979 born model Stefanie Ingrid Küster (nick name "Estefania") until 2006. They have one son- Maurice - born mid 2005.
He met his current girlfriend Carina in Majorca, Spain where one of the castings for the current episode of Deutschland sucht den Superstar (the German version of Pop idol) was produced.
In 1986 Bohlen wrote and produced Chris Norman's "Midnight Lady" for an episode of the German crime show "Tatort" - the song which became a major hit in central Europe.
He has been in the jury of Deutschland sucht den Superstar (Pop Idol in Germany) for seasons 1 through 4 and has scored several major hits with the participants. Bohlen has also released two autobiographical books about his career and his women and his experiences with singers. The first book was an unprecedented success in Germany.
In 2006 Bohlen issued a new album called "Dieter - Der Film" that was a soundtrack to a movie of the same name.

I Promised You
Dieter Bohlen Lyrics

Can we start from zero?
I know it's hard for you
Cause I made you blue
Can I be your lover?
Will there be no other?
To break each others heart
Can we try a start?
I don't know where I go
But I'll never let you
Never let you go
I promised you the world, I promised love
I promised you will never give it up
I'll get the stars, from the sky
Oh, to hold you just a while
I promised you my love just everyday
I promised you will always find a way
I'll get the stars from the sky
Oh, to hold you just a while
Love is like an ocean
Always just in motion
Should I stay or go?
Oh, baby let me know
Can we be together?
Always and forever
Is this just goodbye?
But do we give a try?
Baby tears may go
And baby years may come
But I know for sure girl
Where my heart belongs
The lyrics to Dieter Bohlen's "I Promised You" are about a man who wants to be there for his lover after causing her pain. He asks if he can be her hero and start over again, knowing how hard it is for her because of the hurt he caused. He then asks if he can be her lover and promises her that there will be no other to break each other's heart. He acknowledges the uncertainty of the future but promises to never let her go. He then reaffirms his promise to give her the world and never give up on their love.
The chorus is a repetition of his promise to her: he promises her the world, love that she will never give up, and to get the stars from the sky just to hold her for a while. He then discusses the unpredictability of love, comparing it to an ocean that is always in motion. He questions if they should stay or go, asking for her input. He ends the song by stating that he knows where his heart belongs, and that tears may come and go, but he will always be there for her.
