1. Dio was an American heavy metal band formed in 1982 and led by vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Dio left Black Sabbath with intentions to form a new band with fellow former Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice. The name Dio was chosen because it made sense from a commercial standpoint, as the name was already well known at that time. The band released ten studio albums and had numerous lineup changes over the years, with Dio himself being the only constant member. Guitarists included Vivian Campbell, Craig Goldy, Doug Aldrich, Warren DeMartini, Tracy G, Jake E. Lee and Rowan Robertson. The band dissolved in 2010 when Ronnie James Dio died of stomach cancer at the age of 67. Dio has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.

One More for the Road
Dio Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But I'm coming back tomorrow
For the real pain a cold rain again
Nice day for a crucifixion
Heard a new prediction
That we can all be saved so I'll have
One more for the road
Never heard this before
That a child can tell who's evil
But it's a good thing if we sing along
Cold day we can make a fire
Burn another liar
Can witches ever die hey let's burn
One more for the road gimme the same again
One more for the road
Well I've never been here before
And the room is really empty
But there's a big line waiting for the show
Nice day for an execution
Another wrong conclusion
But someone's got to pay so let's burn
One more for the road same again
One more for the road
There's a child who just sees evil
And a man who just loves pain
But I've heard that we can't save them
So gimme me the same again
There's a cross that you can't carry
Cause it's heavier than hell
And if you should meet your maker
Just pray that he won't yell
One more for the road
One more for the road
One more for the road
One more for the road
The lyrics of "One More for the Road" by Dio paint a picture of a bleak and hopeless world where evil pervades and redemption seems out of reach. The singer laments their circumstances and seeks solace in repetition and oblivion, expressed by the repeated refrain of "One more for the road same again." The first stanza depicts a world where pain and suffering are ever-present ("real pain a cold rain again"), and salvation and hope are fragile concepts that offer little comfort in reality. The second stanza references the scapegoating of witches as a way to cope with fear and the unknown, suggesting that violence and fear are endemic in society ("But someone's got to pay so let's burn").
The third stanza introduces a child who can see evil and a man who loves pain, indicating that no one is immune to the darkness that surrounds them. The lyrics suggest that even if we could identify evil and pain, it might not be enough to make a difference ("But I've heard that we can't save them"). The last stanza introduces the idea of a burden too heavy to bear ("There's a cross that you can't carry"), a metaphor for the weight of sin and guilt. The song ends on a note of resignation and acceptance, with the repeated refrain of "One more for the road" conveying a sense of repetition and eternal return.
