1. Dio was an American heavy metal band formed in 1982 and led by vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Dio left Black Sabbath with intentions to form a new band with fellow former Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice. The name Dio was chosen because it made sense from a commercial standpoint, as the name was already well known at that time. The band released ten studio albums and had numerous lineup changes over the years, with Dio himself being the only constant member. Guitarists included Vivian Campbell, Craig Goldy, Doug Aldrich, Warren DeMartini, Tracy G, Jake E. Lee and Rowan Robertson. The band dissolved in 2010 when Ronnie James Dio died of stomach cancer at the age of 67. Dio has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.

Welcome To My Nightmare
Dio Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I think you're gonna like it
I think you're gonna feel
You belong
A nocturnal vacation
Unnecessary sedation
You want to feel at home
Welcome to my nightmare, yeah
Welcome to my breakdown
I hope I didn't scare you
That's just the way we are
When we come down
We sweat and laugh and scream here
Cause life is just a dream here
You know inside you feel
Right at home here
Welcome to my breakdown, whoa
You're welcome to my nightmare, yeah
Welcome to my nightmare
I know you're gonna like it
I think you're gonna feel
You belong
We sweat, laugh and scream here
Cause life is just a dream here
You know inside you feel
Right at home here
Welcome to my nightmare, whoa
Welcome to my breakdown
Welcome to my breakdown, whoa
Welcome to my nightmare, yeah
The song "Welcome to My Nightmare" by Dio is a dark and macabre invitation to the singer's twisted and surreal world. The lyrics suggest that the listener is about to embark on a nocturnal journey, filled with sedation and unnerving experiences. However, Dio reassures the listener that they will feel at home in this nightmare - that they will sweat, laugh, and scream as if life were just a dream.
The use of repetition throughout the lyrics, specifically in lines such as "Welcome to my nightmare, yeah / Welcome to my breakdown," emphasizes the urgency and intensity of Dio's message. The chorus, with its haunting melody and repeated phrases, makes the listener feel as though they are being hypnotized, drawn further into the nightmare.
Overall, the song's lyrics suggest that the nightmare is not something to be feared, but rather welcomed. Dio's world is a strange and unsettling place - but one in which the listener can find a sense of belonging and catharsis.
