Justice
Dirt Poor Robins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I never was late, you could rest assured
I'd never need a reminder
But everyday was made to wait
For errant names and reprobates
Such was assigned as my fate
Faithfully I would prepare my works to prove God's wrath was undeserved
But the while the one defiled by purity, by sinners reviled
Subject to their guile

Justice is what I seek
I judge the ones in debt to me
They stole my soul, these wanton thieves
Now doll my foes their penalty

The beauty I have was a gift from birth
The cornerstone of all my worth
Be proud of this crown and you'll be found
Arrogant, narcissistic by critics unbound
Tracking your moves like a hound on my trail
I just left his shop but I'm late for my show and I cannot stop
I would not have strayed or run away if I could've found an owner to pay
Still he ran me into this grave

Justice is what I seek
I judge the ones in debt to me
They stole my soul, these wanton thieves
Now doll my foes their penalty
Justice
Give me justice

Justice
Give me justice

Overall Meaning

The song "Justice" by Dirt Poor Robins is a heavy track that explores themes of revenge, self-righteousness, and the desire for justice. The song is written from the perspective of someone who feels wronged by others and is seeking retribution. The opening lyrics are particularly powerful, as they set the tone for the rest of the song. The singer claims that they were always punctual and never needed reminding, contrasting this with the "errant names and reprobates" that they are forced to deal with.

Throughout the song, the singer seems to be grappling with their own sense of righteousness. They feel that they have been wronged and are determined to punish those who have "stolen [their] soul". However, as the song progresses, it becomes clear that the singer's sense of justice is warped by their own ego and pride. They describe themselves as possessing a "beauty...a gift from birth" that is the "cornerstone of all [their] worth". They see themselves as an arbiter of justice, tracking their foes "like a hound on [their] trail". In reality, they are consumed by their own self-importance.

“To prove gods wrath was undeserved” bros voice is actualy majestic. I heard this and had to listen back. One of the most impressive vocals I’ve heard in just the word wrath

@furviousthefurry9054

I honestly would kill just to have sheet music for Justice. Arranging the harmonies on the chorus is so difficult as someone with terrible relative pitch. Absolutely beautiful song!

@Zanyotaku

So, I'm in a literature seminar where the focus is "revenge, vengeance and justice in literature" and I jokingly told my professor he got this song stuck in my head. So he asked me to send it to him.
So now you know what's in my head when we're having our class discussions on hamlet and also my prof will never know peace from me.

"For all that I've said
And all that I've done
Was worthless at best, and at worst it did harm
When I gave my all, for everyone else
I can see in the end, it was all for myself"

Fuck man these lyrics hit me hard, shit like this is like my worst fear about myself.

@rockhistoria2537
