Streets
Discount Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He walked the highway.
He felt the sky and he wished to be part of a peaceful past.
Awake in the hallway.
I can't bring you down my way.
I'm waiting for it all just to explode.
Step out into the street.

Look. What do you see?
Is there anything familiar, Mom?
He's got a gas mask on.

Everybody's waiting for the bomb.
Is there anything familiar mom?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Discount's song Streets depict a sense of unease and anxiety about the future, particularly the possibility of a catastrophic event such as a bomb exploding. The opening lines suggest a desire for simpler, more peaceful times, as the singer walks the highway and yearns for a bygone era. However, the following lines indicate a present-day reality that is far from peaceful, with the singer feeling overwhelmed and powerless in the face of impending catastrophe. The chorus highlights the unease and fear felt by the singer and others as they face an uncertain future.

Throughout the song, the use of the pronoun "Mom" adds a personal touch and emphasizes the idea of seeking comfort and reassurance from family in a time of crisis. The lyrics also allude to the use of gas masks, which suggests that the potential disaster may be chemical in nature. Overall, the song paints a vivid picture of a world on the brink of disaster, where people are left feeling isolated and afraid.

I love these guys - they’re challenging capitalism. Keep it up!

And before you come at me saying “argh, Kim soo, you don’t care about the law!!” The cops are in on it.

My ex owned a store in Chinatown in the 90’s - they sold all kinds of imitation stuff. The cops knew all the shop owners, cops came in about once a year saying “yeah, sorry, we gotta do this today-“ and then the cops would be gone for another year or more.

Around 2008 or so Hilfiger and a bunch of other designers contacted the city and demanded something be done - the heat was on again for a little while, but then the Bag Guys came back and have been there since…

It happens because the cops allow it. Same reason any crime happens in NYC.

It’s always white suburban women buying these.

NYPD really need they priorities straightened. Put the cops in the subway to protect us from danger, not harass small street stands

Duck Mercy

Id rather they tackle multi million dollar scams like this than harass innocent people like me who just happen to fit their racist profile.

@Duck Mercy unfortunately not everyone is innocent like you.

@Duck Mercy When the MAJORITY of violent crimes are committed by certain demographic, it's not racist. It would be racist, if everyone was committing crimes at the same rate, yet one race was targeted more than the others.

No bail they come out in few minutes

The irony is the cost of manufacturing is about the same with genuine and counterfeit goods.

They are made side by side in the same factories

Yes except designer companies pay lots for advertising and that cost is past down to the consumer. Not saying that justifies how much designer costs.

robin212212

it depends; most counterfeit use cheaper materials and manufacturing processes.
