Phoebus did a brave and noble thing. Not only jumping into danger to save that family, but also for standing up to Frollo by refusing to set the mill on fire. Many of the worst atrocities in history have happened because people just followed orders even when they knew they were wrong and never stood up against evil.

The thing that makes Frollo so scary is that he’s not supernatural like many other villains. He is an ordinary man gone mad with power, and someone like him is very much possible in the real world.

A person using religion as a scapegoat to justify their actions (that already exists) and placed in a position of high authority and power while wielding it arbitrarily against people they don’t like…

A real-life Frollo isn’t a fairytale but a real possibility (if not already present but biding their time).

A normal arrow from longbow could not penetrate a knights armor. And sword could definitley not, that is why they invented warhammer and mace, to defeat the plate armor. Because if it didnt penetrate the armor there would be serious damage to the body. You could hope to pierce the sword or arrow throu the unprotected parts of the armor, but straight up hitting the armor would only glance of.

The first scene is hardly discussed, but I always liked how Frollo comes into the daylight and suffers from headache like he was drinking all night or in his case having halluzinations and singing a song. XD This small details make him so real and human and therefore so much scarier than most other Disney Villains. His belief that he is a good person and all the others are evil is what makes him thte greates Disney VIllain of all time. Like with actual wars happening at the moment, the perpetrators happen to believe as well they are good people just "defending" their country/ people, in spite of them attacking another country and starting a war.

I had already liked Captain Phoebus as a character in the beginning of the movie, but this scene officially made him my favorite HoND character. He knew saving the family was more than likely to end in his death and yet he did it anyway. And when he was about to be executed he was unafraid and at peace knowing he did what was morally right in a time of utter chaos and madness. 100% respect the character. I also loved this movie growing up for the plot and music. But as an adult, I love it even more solely because the messags and dark imagery used are both much bolder and intriguing than most Disney films today even dare to be.

Either this reflects how good Frollo has been at lying, or it shows that he has actually been quite a decent, if stern, guy in the preceeding years, and limited himself to merely locking people up. Either way it reflects that Frollo was apparently seen in quite a positive light throughout Paris.

In the book he was originally a devout and holy man. His mind is slowly warped and troubled by thinking that demons are twisting his thoughts due to lust. He's driven mad by the desire to be pure, pious and devout. Everything he does, be it evil to us, he thinks he is doing the right thing and acting in the name of God.

Frollo is implied to be the Minister of Justice for Paris, meaning he's the chief of police and head of Paris' military garrison which is made up of mercenaries and local militia, and given that Phebious mentions the Hundred Years War (I was summed from the wars to capture fortune tellers and palm readers) the time period the film takes place in is likely between 1337 and 1428 (when Joan of Arc rose to prominence) and he's been taking advantage of the instability of the French Monarchy, and the fact that many of major Noble Houses were fighting a civil war among themselves and a war against England, to expand his own power base, since the King was incapacitated and many Knights that made up the nobility had been killed in the wars

Strange as this may sound, this movie changed my mind about who the worst villains are. It is not those who boast about how evil they are. It is men like Claude Frollo, with his god complex. Simple definiton of a god complex is someone who believes everything they do and say is right because of a belief. To such people, there is no moral compass. Everything just falls back to "I believe this" or "this is for thus" and thus will do anything and everything. Same time such people are the biggest hyoocrites and will still say people "do wrong." And they are also the least at peace with themselves cause they see the world and all that is wrong, but assume it is anyone other than them, despite knowing, deep down, they are the problem

As Mistress of All Evil, Maleficent could easily team up with Frollo and both could go to Hades and ask for resurrection. With that, THoND/Sleeping Beauty/Hercules spin-off would begin. In my opinion, the scene where we see all the fires in Paris is the scariest part of the entire movie. It shows how crazy and deluded that Frollo has become to the point where he literally burns down the city in order to get Esmerelda and the other gypsies.

In the novel, Frollo twisted the truth to King Louis XI, who was in his deathbed, and granted Frollo permission. The church had complete control over politics at that time, so it’s very believable that Frollo would be 100% backed up by the royal family.

In the book the King was backing him. In the film, more like he's away leading the armies. France was fighting on all sides, against the English, the HRE, the Italian States, the Swiss and the Portuguese. An army of French knights even went east to take part in the wars against the Ottoman Turks.
